OCALA, Fla. -- A Florida judge said a plea deal for a Tampa teacher accused of having sex with a 14-year-old would "erode public confidence in" schools.
Marion County Circuit Judge Hale Stencil has rejected the plea deal for Debra Lafave, 25. The judge said the deal would undermine the credibility of the criminal justice system.
Prosecutors and the defense lawyer had urged the judge to accept the deal for the good of the boy. A psychiatrist told the judge the boy suffered extreme anxiety because of intense media coverage of the case and does not want to testify.
Lafave was charged in two counties where she's accused of having sex with the student.
A judge in Hillsborough County accepted a plea deal there in November and sentenced Lafave to three years of house arrest and seven years' probation. She pleaded guilty in November to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery for having sex with the boy in a classroom and her home.
Way to go, Judge! Plea bargaining with sex offenders must be ended.
Sometimes, probably.
But with men, many, many times it's just about easily available sex with young, fit women. Not about 'power' at all.
This teacher abused her power as a teacher. Fire her, absolutetly.
But this kid is not a 'victim', any more than a crackhead is a 'victim' of a drug dealer.
I'd park my bike in her garage.
Peace: At my age, one has to be very careful not to over sell and under deliver! Hahahaha! That's why its all about cooperation now.
I think it's just a mistaken desire to be 'fair'. To treat boys and girls the same.
Which in the case of sex is a HUGE mistake -- in my opinion.
Unfortunately, yes, I would hold it against him as a dating partner. Because as the other women on this thread have pointed out..as a girl I also had the horny hormones at age 14. I certainly wasn't interested in 14 year old guys either...which is probably why guys don't think girls even fantasize at that age. But I didn't act on my hormones with any teacher. It goes back to the character thing...why did you act on it? What? You don't feel bad about it? Well, women are different from men and they don't find it attractive. If the guy had been tied down and forced to submit that would be a totally different scenario in which he would have had no control. That would put the dating thing in a different light. But no matter what the scenario was here the teacher is a pervert and should have gone to jail.
The fact the teacher has to claim some mental disorder also is telling in that she knows she got caught doing something bad.
Which flips around completely to where a 35 plus woman picks up steam, drive and passion well into her 50's while hubby, well, becomes rather....
boring.
Seriously darlin', you don't know the women I know :)
OK,
Off to see who's hanging out at the highschool track ;)
You don't think a crackhead buying crack is a victim???
Man,how many crackheads have YOU been around? They are victims and their kids, relatives and the community as a whole become THEIR victims when they are"on their mission"
They may not THINK they are victims when they are"copping some s---"but they most certainly are victims of their vicious habit.
Ok, from the woman's POV,
sex IS power, control etc.
and molestors, abusers, it is the case totally.
Again,
the kid is a victim simply because he was the student and she was the person in authority.
Simple as that.
Hey,why not let Hollywood make a movie about this case starring Reese Witherspoon???
Hahahahahah!
Seriously darlin', you don't know the women I know :)
If you think men lose steam, drive and passion as we age -- you don't know the *men* I know, then!
LOL...yeah, those are the girls/women EVERY guy dreams of marrying and having a family with. Woo Hoo!
"Again, anyone in authority who abuses it is an abuser."
I agree totally with your concluding statement.
I don't agree with your statements concerning men and power vs. sex. (I can't say whether or not they apply to women). One of the reasons men want power is to obtain the real objective -- sex.
Teachers already enjoy tremendous power over their students. Not only the bestowed authority (which is much weaker today than it was 50 years ago) -- but also the power that comes from the higher status that teachers have compared to students. This perceived power and status is attractive to many students. The teachers have a duty not to betray the trust parents give them to look after their children.
Unless you are 14 and under, she'll have no part of you. This is one sick woman.
We aren't talking about those on the little blue pill.
My best friend in HS became a crackhead, I'm afraid. He got clean, then went back to it, then got clean, then back to it . . .
He wasn't a victim, except of his *own* habit, his own accord.
He was not a victim of the crack dealer.
;-)
