Sirius has announced 4 million subscribers, and I haven't heard a word from the Howard Stern detractors. Even if he's only responsible for half of the increase since he signed on (600,000 then) and it stays where it is, that's worth more than a billion dollars over five years. That $500 million is a good investment.
Sorry, satisfied XM customer here.
I think we all know that people are willing to pay money for cultural filth. So that's a given.
I also think the assumption that the pervert with the big wig is the cause of Sirius' success is a bit of a stretch. It's a great technology. People are subscribing to it for a whole number of reasons.
Stern is no more " culturally filthy " than Oprah or that moron Dr. Phil.
The why is their stock in the toilet?
Please hand over the crackpipe...
Sorry. I have XM. I am quite happy with the service. However, if they are stupid enough to pay $500 million for a trash talker, I will just go back to regular radio.
We love our XM
I can't imagine why anybody would care, one way or the other.
Your point?
Until Sat Radio actually makes money, it is hard to say it was a good investment. It was a neccessary investment for Sirius to stay competitive with XM. Without Stern Sirius would be a penny stock today. I am not sold on the idea that Sat Radio will be a viable business long term. I just don't see it as a must have for most people at $13 a month.
Ditto here. I only wish that XM carried the NFL.
"I only wish that XM carried the NFL."
Which is why I chose Sirius. I've yet to listen to Stern and have no plans to.
Don't confuse good programming with good business.
You know, I think you have a point here. One is not as subtle as the other two.
I was at a club on a treadmill and Oprah was on one of the TV's. The whole program was devoted to extolling the virtues of Brokeback Mountain. So, which is worse? Howard Sterns's direct vulgarity, or Oprah's vulgar attempt to deceive?
I'm still listening to radio and television on Winamp. Once they start charging, I'll look around.
So?
Supposedly the Internet pornography industry generates $12 billion dollars in annual revenue larger than the combined annual revenues of ABC, NBC, and CBS.
From ... Mash here
Sirius has a way to go.

People said the same thing when cable TV came around.
I don't do drugs , so I guess you are out of luck . My point is that they all contribute to the downward spiral, they just have different ways of doing it . Guess you didn't understand.
