NRO's "The Corner" was reporting the Rumsfeld resignation rumor yesterday.
RUMSFELD IS RESIGNING? [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
At least one specialty newsroom in the D.C. area is buzzing right now....
File it under unconfirmed rumor. Maybe even wishful newsroom thinking?
UPDATE: The president is giving a lunchtime three-years-later speech in Cleveland. If anyone in the administration can help it, I can't imagine Rumsfeld resigning today.

Probably wishful thinking......the media has been pressing for a "shake-up" recently.

Fred Barnes was pushing hard yesterday for an administration shake-up. Not to get rid of anyone, just move them around. His reasoning was sound. Throw a bone to the media and have them chew on the changes, get attention off the war. Not bad reasoning. He had some very reasonable suggestions. It included making Condi VP, Cheney Sec of Defense and Rumsfield Chief of Staff.

I can't see the President announcing a Cabinet resignation except from the White House. I don't see him doing it at a presser outside of Washington.

The President was in Cleveland yesterday. his speech featured a detailed account of the successes in Tal-Afar and was actually quite well received in front of a rather liberal-oriented audience(Cleveland City Club). He answered questions for a long time, from the audience--no media questions allowed at the CC-- and was at the top of his game. Several community leaders voiced support during the Q&A.
