"The Huegonots risen from the dead to exact revenge! "

Hehehe.

The Huguenots that didn't make it out of France are roaming the streets of Paris in spirit and laughing their little tail ends off at what France has become.

That is the best revenge.

This is the Sorbonne, and those students have been hand-picked to be France's political and intellectual elite.

Don't that just figure: France hand-picked their own punks to be their political and intellectual elite. That explains a LOT.

From situations with which I am familiar, I would never voluntarily work for a French-owned organization. It may because bosses felt unconstrained in the US environment, but firing and criticizing employees in public meetings is not my cup of tea.

France is a Ford Pinto with a full tank stalled dead center of the middle lane at rush hour.

"Can you think of anything we can do to wake the French up in time to avoid a trainwreck? They're asleep on the tracks, and the whistle's blowing." We have already done all that we can. We have a system that works better, and they know it. They call it the Anglo-American model and it galls the Gauls to be wrong again, but they will catch on. europe looks to America for solutions, even though their pride makes them want to pretend they don't. Did you see that our poor passed up the German's? We now have the richest poor in the world (lowest quintile of pop;) What possible reason could there now be for pursuing socialism?

I love the catchy way you catch the Zeitgeist.

I think the Gauls are permanently galled. It seems to be their natural state. If they don't catch on immediately it will be too late. It may be already.

America gave Europe a solution: President Bush. They ridiculed him and rejected the very solution that would have solved their overwhelming problems, brought them prosperity, and enabled them to survive.

No, I didn't know that the U.S. poor had passed the Germans. Does that mean that the average income of the U.S. poor is higher than the average income of the German population?

What's even more astounding is that the German and French people would adopt the Marxist model of East Germany rather than capitalist model of West Germany. If they would do that, they are likely to do anything; it seems that sooner or later a trainwreck in inevitable.

Marxism does not work. That's why the Soviet Union collapsed (after Marxism had killed more people there than Naziism). And furthermore, it requires an oppressive totalitarian state to implement and enforce it. Not only is this obvious from Marxist theory, and not only was it acknowledged by Karl Marx and others who followed him, but it has been proven time after time. Still--remarkably--there are many people who insist on trying it yet again.

In contrast, capitalism has generated the greatest amount of prosperity for the greatest number of people and can be depended upon to do that.

I don't see how Europe--and especially France--can avoid becoming an Islamic theocracy, with the shariah as national law and the koran as the constitution. Do you?

We need to stop defending Europe, as that makes them weak and unrealistic. I think they are startiing to take on some actual dangerous missions in Afghanistan, and that is progress.

Sharia in Paris, incroyable. They guard militantly against Franglais and won't give in to the Arabs. It is probably a short trip from the banlieus to adieus.

"Villepin resists. Strike deepens. Government swoons with the economy. Villepin relents. Strikers win. Right is wiped out in 2007 elections."

...and the country continues the long slide downwards, regardless of how your scenarios play out. Either way, the economy takes the hit, unemployment remains terrible, and the stage is set for even more riots down the line - muslims or college kids, take your pick.

Sharia in Paris, pas incroyable. At the rate they're going it's downright inévitable. I really hate to see it. J'aime la belle France. But there's going to be a lot of cussing and crying and lots of pleas to those wretched Americans for forgiveness and salvation, and it's gonna get mighty hot on the Riviera in burqas.

From bikini to burka in one lifetime you think. I'll bet they throw them out, first. The Dutch are getting downright tough, and the French could, too. Do you think the kids at the Sorbonne could take a break from their riots for a love-in to boost the population of frogs?

Good question.

They allowed the Mohammedans to burn/destroy over 10,000 automobiles and who knows how many buildings.

The French government is beyond stupid for tolerating stuff like this.

The French are always ready for a love in. (I know. I'm of French descent.) But they are disinclined to raise all those children, and, even if they were not, they would face a tough challenge trying to outreproduce the Muslims.

When the French decide to be nasty, they can be very nasty. So to throw out the Muslims is not contrary to their disposition, but it may be beyond their capability, considering the size--and the increasing size--of the Muslim population.

I think the long cherished French laissez faire attitude--combined with a large dose of hubris and denial--has finally fait cuire leur oie.

I hope not. But I don't see any way out. I hope it's there and that I'm just not seeing it.
