Opposition to Iraq War Still Heated (Cleveland, OH and Worldwide protest numbers)

CLEVELAND (AP) — About 100 war protesters gathered outside the building where President Bush was giving a speech Monday about progress in Iraq, banging drums, holding peace signs and chanting for him to leave.

As Bush spoke at the City Club about the third anniversary of the war, police cordoned off a part of the busy Public Square across the street for demonstrators who held signs reading "Bush step down" and "No blood for oil."

"It's a good turnout of people who are very upset about this ongoing and disastrous war and occupation," said Greg Coleridge of the American Friends Service Committee.

Marcy Wessbecher, 50, a Navy veteran, ventured into the crowd to voice her disagreement with their views.

"I believe I know why we went to war and what it's about and I believe we went for the right cause and that our men and women are not going to die or be injured in vain," she said.

Also Monday, San Francisco police arrested 17 protesters and pulled several others wearing orange jumpsuits from a makeshift prison during a rally aimed at shutting down the Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib prisons.

"Our government is openly torturing people and detaining them indefinitely and we have to put an end to it," said Ayah Young, 23.

During the weekend, demonstrators marking the third anniversary of the Iraq war made their voices heard worldwide, with the largest marches in London, Chicago and Portland, Ore., although in numbers that were often lower than in previous years.

About 10,000 war protesters in Portland took nearly an hour to pass through downtown streets Sunday, some carrying signs that said "Impeach the Evildoer." More than 7,000 people marched through downtown Chicago on Saturday.

Outside the United States, 1,000 demonstrators in Seoul urged the South Korean government to bring their troops home.

Police in London said 15,000 people joined a march Saturday from Parliament and Big Ben to a rally in Trafalgar Square. The anniversary last year attracted 45,000 protesters in the city

These people haven't heard the war ended three years ago. What has them riled up is the prospect America might take action against the country next door to Iraq. That's what has the so-called peace movement all a-buzz.

Saddam Hussein had been in power in Iraq, torturing and murdering people and detaining others without reason for over 7 years when this snotty, wet behind the ears little dumbass was born. Just another brainwashed, straw-for-brains moonbat regurgitating the mindless liberal mantras without a clue of reality or the big picture.

They think our government is out to kill us all.

Did you assure them they only want to kill the ones that disagree with us?

Shouting "No blood for oil."

Why don't these dolts shout "No Blood for sand"?

If we wanted to steal their effin oil, why didn't we do it prior to 911?
