A CHRISTIAN ON TRIAL

By

Michelle Malkin

  ·   March 19, 2006 09:47 AM

This story deserves much more attention than it's getting. Via VOA News (hat tip: Doug at Below the Beltway):

An Afghan man who recently admitted he converted to Christianity faces the death penalty under the country's strict Islamic legal system. The trial is a critical test of Afghanistan's new constitution and democratic government.

The case is attracting widespread attention in Afghanistan, where local media are closely monitoring the landmark proceedings.

Abdul Rahman, 40, was arrested last month, accused of converting to Christianity. Under Afghanistan's new constitution, minority religious rights are protected but Muslims are still subject to strict Islamic laws. And so, officially, Muslim-born Rahman is charged with rejecting Islam and not for practicing Christianity.

Appearing in court earlier this week Rahman insisted he should not be considered an infidel, but admitted he is a Christian. He says he still believes in the almighty Allah, but cannot say for sure who God really is. "I am," he says, "a Christian and I believe in Jesus Christ."

Rahman reportedly converted more than 16 years ago after spending time working in Germany. Officials say his family, who remain observant Muslims, turned him over to the authorities. On Thursday the prosecution told the court Rahman has rejected numerous offers to embrace Islam. Prosecuting attorney Abdul Wasi told the judge that the punishment should fit the crime.

He says Rahman is a traitor to Islam and is like a cancer inside Afghanistan. Under Islamic law and under the Afghan constitution, he says, the defendant should be executed. The court has ordered a delay in the proceedings to give Rahman time to hire an attorney. Under Afghan law, once a verdict is given, the case can be appealed twice to higher courts.

This is the first case in which the defendant has admitted to converting and is refusing to back down, even while facing the death penalty.

Here, via the Middle East Times, is the "evidence" against Rahman that may lead to his execution:

What do Afghan President Hamid Karzai and President Bush have to say about the monstrous possibility that Rahman may be executed for professing faith in Jesus Christ and possessing a Bible?

So far, nothing.

I have heard other Muslims on TV say that they accept the OT, that Allah and YHWH are the same God, etc. I think this may be for public consumption though.

"My other criticism is that the typical FR repsose is thta the entire afghan war is lost and a wast of time".

That is not the typical FR response, it's the msm that portrays the war as lost.

I agree with her on the muslim issue. They have shown time and again that they cannot be trusted, even our so called "friends". I believe that working with our muslim allies in Iraq and Afghanistan is the best choice we have right now, i.e., we need to civilize them and bring them into the modern world. The only other alternative is to destroy them.

(PS, spellcheck is your friend).

<< ... There are diplomatic actions that can be taken to prevent christians being persecuted ... >>

There are.

And those other craven girlyboys, who, like you, are the issue of several post-WW-II generations of eternally-infantile girlyboys, that pursue such cravenly-cowardly barbarian-appeasing "diplomatic" actions are standing by right now as hundreds of thousands of Christians throughout the world are being "persecuted" to death.

Just as, for centuries, you and they and your ilk have "diplomatically" stood idly by and as gutlessly watched as millions of other Jews and Christians were "persecuted" to death.

I know, and you are right.

Islam is really a "peaceful religion" whenever discussed on CNN and other MSM vehicles.

However, it is a little known fact that most Muslims reject Jesus Christ as the Messiah, and they will arrest or kill Christians for believing in Him.

Malaysia:
"On April 25, 2005, two foreign Christian missionaries were arrested after distributing religious materials in front of a mosque in Putrajaya and were charged with "disturbing the peace in a religious manner."
http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/irf/2005/51518.htm

Nigeria:
"Witnesses said most of the dead were from Maiduguri's minority Christians."
http://www.iranian.ws/iran_news/publish/article_13367.shtml

Turkey:
With the battle cry “we will kill you (Christians) all” a group of (Islamic) youths launched themselves in attack on a Franciscan friar in Izmir (the ancient Smyrna). The attack took place within the confines of St. Helen’s parish.
Msgr Luigi Padovese, Apostolic Vicar of Anatolia, says “The boys grabbed him by the throat shouting “we will kill you all.”

Wow! Looks like folks are recognizing that ISLAM and Mohammed are the problem! Took me a while to recognize it too, wanting to believe the best of our "fellow man". Jesus would never have preached the "death to everyone who isn't like us" message.

Mohammed on the other hand seems to preach hate about almost everything.

Christian missionaries have gone into numerous countries and converted people to Christianity, including people who belonged to world-class religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism. Many have been martyred in the process, but the spread of Christianity has been extremely successful, because it is fundamentally an attractive, hopeful, and beneficial religion.

The one great exception is Islam. There have been virtually no conversions from Islam in any country where Muslims are in power, because conversion is simply not permitted.

Even in Communist China, Christianity is currently spreading and gaining new converts, despite the prison camps and the thorough brutality of a Christian-hating regime. But not in any of the Muslim countries. Somehow, that has got to change.

<< .... mainly under persecution by two anti-Christian regimes, Communism and Islam. >>

You missed the most deadly of them all. Mohummid-admiring and emulating and as sexually-deviant Herr Hitler's death and destruction worshipping pagan-heathen/Pantheist/Satanist National Socialist Workers' Party saw off millions of Christians and was on track to kill and/or enslave us all.

The old meanies told the Hindus they had an old custom of hanging men who burned innocent women themselves.

That's called "getting 'er done". I like it. There need to be consequences, and this might be a good way of nipping it.

"and yes MIchelle Malkin is usually shrill. Note her respense to the nonissue of a racist 7 year old or the Dubai POrts issue "

Don't change your argument. You accused her of being shrill on this particular issue. I couldn't care less what else she wrote about. I am discussing this issue.

A man's life is at stake and you accuse Malkin of being "shrill" about it. You have no moral ground to stand on.

"No one here has come up with a rational response that the US govt should take.

Nonsense. The implication behind this discussion is that the US government demand (yes demand) that the Afghan government abide by their own Constitution that guarantees freedom of religious belief. Without a viable, credible Constitution the war in Afghanistan would be a failure.

I refuse to accept such absolutism as it would be destructive to US foreign policy.

Such ignorant talk. Absolutism is ESSENTIAL to a successful foreign policy. Moral relativism is a failed concept. It is a failed strategy for foreign policy and it is totally responsible for the growth of terrorism over the last 30 years.

Had Jimmy Carter been an absolutist and gone to war in Iran in 1979 as any morally resolute President would have done, then millions of lives would have been saved in the Mid East (no Iran Iraq war)and terrorism would not have developed such as it has now (no State sponsored fanaticism would exist).

IF you have no absolutes, you have no morals, you have no standards and you are less than a civilized human being. Animals have no moral absolutes either.

"I have yet to hear any solution from you or anyone like you. Aside from cutting and running.. "

You have no idea who I am so you have no idea who "is like me".

You have never heard me suggest cutting and running. I am absolutely opposed to cuttiing and running. I propose keeping overwhelming military force in those nations for decades. I also propose going to war with Iran and Syria (who are already killing US troops). Just proves you are prepared to make judgments based on bigotry rather than facts.

" also the Matthew quotes do nothing to enhance your arguments"

I can take no responsibility for your literacy. You never understood my point.

"A fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his own mind." -- Proverbs 18:2

I bet neither one of them have anything to say about it. Islam is a cancer in bowels of mankind. It is a cult of death and destruction straight from hell.

Gee lets give the Islamofascists control of our ports, their such nice people! /sarcasm

I fear Heaven will soon be making room for another martyr for Jesus soon. God bless that saint. His own family murdered him!

Jesus will crush the serpent ROP when he returns!

I do not think Ann Coulter is shrill, I think she says what allot of people think but do not have the guts to actually say. If Michelle Malkin is becoming more like Ann than I say yahoo, we need more conservatives who are not afraid to say what needs to be said. They are fabulous

I like them in this sense - These sniveling liberal men know what happens when they attack women so these two play to that & normally get away with it.

The peaceful founder of Islam was illiterate and living in an age when few people rich or poor had Bibles. They were a little larger than your average book in those days. This was pre-Dickens after all. The likelihood that he read it is low. But then most Christians in those days never read it either (of course the same holds true today but that is another topic)

One of the reasons Catholic Priests and Monks became so important in the political affairs in the Middle Ages was because they were about the only people who could read. Even some royals were unable to read in those days (or so I understand)
