Faced with problems ranging from misfires to barrels breaking off, the state has asked gun maker Smith & Wesson to replace hundreds of sidearms carried by probation and corrections officers.
None of the revolvers have failed in the line of duty, and for now, the department is keeping the guns in service. But in testing, about one in four revolvers didn't fire when the trigger was pulled. In some cases, the barrel of some models broke off when the gun was fired.
"In one sense it's funny," said Chief Deputy Correction Secretary Dan Stieneke. "In another, it's alarming."

It is a SW9M.
New in the box and never fired.
I didn't even like getting it out of the box.
That's an ugly gun.
Life's too short, even if they work.
I take it you mean the Sigma? (Glock Clone)
They have a bad rep-most of it is deserved.
I have had two in 40 cal (The Economics of the moment) that have worked flawlessly, but from everything I have heard from some very reputable people that is the exception rather than the rule.
41's are pretty available. I've got a newly manufactured one, and it digests a variety of ammo a bit better than some of the earlier ones.
Glock G21
It is made out of some kind of plastic.
Not a Glock fan, but I'll overlook it in your case 'cause your kids are so darn cute. :)
It ain't mine that's for sure!
Top rack, darnit!
Glock #1
Kimber 45 #2
Then it's either the Sigma or P99 (A Walther Clone)
Probably the Sigma-the P99 has a fairly good rep-never handled one.
I stick with Glocks and decent 1911's now-just picked up a Para Ord SSP that is sweet
Kimber's good. Had a stainless gold match. Only 1911 I have now is a Colt vintage 1950 in .38 Super.
WHat can I say, I love my plastic!
I'm voting for the Sigma (or Smegma as some wag refered to it). I've had a P99, and it was very reliable. Got rid of it because of the mag release. Found myself once trying to do a reload of a 1911 by pushing down on the trigger guard with my trigger finger P99 style. My first thought was "Under other circumstances this could be really embarassing!."
They're too easy to clean! No better way to pass an afternoon than scrubbing impacted lead from cheap wadcutters out of the cylinder of a .38/44 Heavy Duty. ;)
The newer ones are drilled and tapped for a Weaver # 67 (?) mount. Slap a red-dot on one and it's a small critter deathray.
That's pretty much what I figure too-
Changing guns can be a pain sometimes-My Glock has the NY 12 pd trigger (Mandated). After a hundred rounds or so with that, I have to focus on trigger control when I pick up that single action 1911.
We don't even want to discuss the trigger on the Smegma
