Cost of Iraq war could surpass $1 trillion
MSNBC ^ | Mar 17 06 | MSNBC

One thing is certain about the Iraq war: It has cost a lot more than advertised. In fact, the tab grows by at least $200 million each and every day.

...In any event, most estimates put forward by White House officials in 2002 and 2003 were relatively low compared with the nation's gross domestic product, the size of the federal budget or the cost of past wars. ....Even if the U.S. exits Iraq within another three years, total direct and indirect costs to U.S. taxpayers will likely by more than $400 billion, and one estimate puts the total economic impact at up to $2 trillion.

Oh no! War is just too costly, we should simply appease all and dare not ever raise our voices!

The MSM thinks its too expensive to defend this country. I wonder what their take would have been if New York and Washington had been reduced to a pile of radioactive rubble. With them you just can't win.

I sure wish MSNBC could publish how this will affect tooth decay in the U.S. That's about the only negative outcome of the war they've missed to this point.

I would love to see a breakdown of monies allocated to this conflict. I want to see how many dollars would be spent in peacetime on the military as opposed to how much of it is spent strictly because of the deployment.

That is to say, how much of the appropriations are salaries, benefits, eating, equipment, ammunition etc.

These things are all used in peace time or war time and a good breakdown would allow us all to see how much money is REALLY being spent as a result of this war.

My guess is that that number would not be so flashy for the MSM to tout around like such a huge issue.

We need to, at a minimum, start taking oil reparations for babysitting these useless, troublemaking Moos. Islam is nothing but a parasitic cancer on the world; we need to stop corralling them for free.

No, it is not. But our cost in lives and money for another country, a Muslim country for that matter, is way too high.

If it were up to me, Iraq would be free, but we would be lien holders for a long, long time.

While folks can argue the costs all day long.

Where exactly are those funds going? Soldiers, US equipment MFGs like the indiana company that makes the Up-armor humvee, Kellog, Brown, Root(ack, Halliburton! heh), etc.

These folks act like this money has been tossed on a big pile and torched. It wasn't and I suspect much of it will and has come right back to the US.

Yep - I often use that rationale when I hear the "But it costs $85,000 a year to keep a three-striker in prison" crap...

It's all in the bookkeeping.

Just so. I'm sure the war was expensive, but most of this "trillion dollars" was spent on regular costs of the military, replacement of supplies expended by clinton (he used up almost all our missiles, spare parts, and supplies during the course of his pointless wars. He expended virtually all our cruise missiles, for instance, and was said to be cannibalizing aircraft for spare parts.

The military was in tough shape, and a lot of this money was presumably spent to get it back into shape again.

As for the money coming right back to the USA.....the folks that so oppose haliburton would love to see all that money go to a french company instead. That way it wouldn't cycle here and would solve the french rioting problems by allowing it to cycle there instead

/sarcasm

Thanks, she's great, so is her platoon. She's at Ft. Riley now, but went to our private dentist on her leave last month and got it fixed (I'm not a spy, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once).

Of course they want to complain about three strikers and the cost....but they never want to talk about the money that is wasted for folks on death row for 20 years....
