Iran may have tested in 1999. It would be amusing if they launched a broadsides and their warheads failed to detonate. Still, they weigh a ton and would do severe damage to what they land on, a car, or blow out the windows of a store if they hit the sidewalk in front.

Don't make the mistake of thinking Israels retailiation if nuked will end with Iran, the same fate will be set upon most Arab/Muslim nations in the region, including Saudi Arabia, and Syria.

This is grim, grim indeed. We may soon have no choice but to take out the nuclear sites as much as possible, even when the Iranian leadership rings them as they have before with children while their TV cameras catch it all on film.

We may have to let Iran overplay their hand to such an extent first, however, that it unites China, India, Russia etc. and sane Muslims against them, and then take out not only the nuclear sites but part of their leadership as well. Otherwise we could be stirring up a bigger hornets nest.

The rest of the Muslim world did not erupt into flames when we went in Iraq. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is probably counting on a strike to help erupt the wider region into an apocalyptic radical Islamic jihad. Like Saddam Hussein, however, he may come to see he miscalculated.

We learned a lot about getting diplomatic support by going down this path on Iraq. We are increasingly unwilling just to let others freeload while we take the hit in world sentiment. There will be a careful counting who stands where and a cost extracted for those who don't stand on the side of greater security. The more countries stand together, the less likely extreme measures will have to be taken.

I won't believe Iran has a bomb until they test one. The one thing worse that having no nukes is not having enough nukes.

Unless, of course, one isn't following a policy of MAD, but instead repetively muttering 'Allah, Achbar', perceives the road to glory is paved in their immediate work, and then, even a test might not be operationally best deployed as a demonstration, rather, their best demonstration might be in a destructive test on a foreign target.

When people were concerned about WMD fabrication processes having advanced into the 21st century, they were also concerned with modern logistics and manufacturing just-in-time methods being used in compartmentalized fashions making a response that less likely for countering such a threat with success.

Locally, we need to be vigilent concerning a 5th column of socialists within this country that would welcome an opportunity to mobilize Cuba and Venezuela with multiple disparate interest groups in the US to seize private US interests while our attention is focused elsewhere. IMHO, an obvious international threat is from foreign enemies, while a more significant US threat looms from seditious domestic enemies of the Constitution.

If the Iranians do that the best result Iran can hope for is that the device when triggered goes "Click" otherwise there will not be enough virgins for all of the dead.

Well, it's the 20th of this month, or it's the 8th of next. Personally, I'd rather the 8th to allow me more time to B.L.O.A.T. Any attack will correspond with stateside attacks by the moderates already here.

Put gold of one kind or another (mining stocks ok) on your list as well. I'm on record saying that gold will go up $75 in a day if Israel launches a strike against Iran, and I'm sticking by that.

Not that money will become worthless, but it's a quick payday on something that's gonna happen or not happen whether I have a couple of Gold Eagles in the vault or not.

I hope that sure that the President and team are trying to develop a strategy that eliminates the nuclear facilities without damaging the rest of the country

As the article says: "They are spreading their nuclear facilities around the country burying many of them in hardened bunkers in the sides of mountains and in some cases, under populated areas such as the secret underground emergency command center beneath the Abbas Abad district in north Tehran and near sacred religious shrines."

There will not be any easy choices in this conflict.

Regarding the other comment on the domino theory, perhaps Bush's plan of knocking off the major terror threats one by one will in hindsight be a mistake. I know a lot of people, (especially Freepers!) wanted to go into Iran at the same time we went after Saddam.

Then there is the not-so-secret air base being built near the northern Iraqi town of Kirkuk thought to be one of the more important staging areas for the coming pre-emptive allied strike. Turkey has also allowed the U.S. to pre-position an estimated ninety tactical nuclear weapons on its territory. These weapons can and will be deployed against Iranian targets if needed.

Having a staging area for US troops right next door is a benefit that short-sighted Bush critics never seem to grasp. And the part about Turkey, if true, is fascinating.

Turkey is but one of several ME countries who will privately breathe one huge collective sigh of relief if we are able to remove the threat of a nuclear Iran.
