FOUR prison officers have been sacked and two more counselled in the wake of the so-called "Sausagegate" scandal, which hurt and humiliated a vulnerable inmate of the privately owned and run Port Phillip Prison.
The Bracks Government has put GSL Australia, operator of the Laverton maximum-security complex, on notice over a spate of alarming incidents.
The prisoner was tricked into believing he was leaving the jail, coerced into inserting a sausage in his body, then strip-searched by officers "in" on the "joke".
The dismissed officers were corrections supervisor Trevor Spearman, who allegedly tried to cover up the incident, and corrections officer Steven Harmat, who allegedly played the leading role, and corrections officers Russell Davies and Appudurai Natkunarajah, who joined the prank.
Until last week, they had been suspended for six to nine months on full pay following the report of the investigation by GSL's security manager, Jim Keegan, revealed exclusively in The Sunday Age last week.
Anti-private prison activist Charandev Singh said the report shows that more needs to be done to address serious systemic problems in the prison.

Just a new variation on hide the sausage, prison edition.
If he as TROP, it would be "hide the salaam"..
As a practical joke, I give this a 4. Now, convince a prisoner to climb into a casket with a body, and that the trustee in charge of the graveyard will later come and dig him out, and then have the prisoner find out that the dead dude IS the trustee in charge of the graveyard . . . not THAT'S a practical joke!
Argh! Not = now.
Thanks! I was wracking my brain trying to remember what movie or episode that was from.

I love all those old Hitchcock, twilightzone shows... After a while they all run together..
If the prisoner was able to figure that out he'd probably have been able to figure out how not to do something to go to jail in the first place.
This is just nuts.
None of the stories regarding this incident mention criminal charges. There should be charges. To begin with, the bogus strip search likely constitutes battery. There is no way these guys should be able to walk away scot-free from such reprehensible, society-undermining behavior.
