The Canadian wolves that were placed in Yellowstone and Idaho are twice as large as the native wolves that once roamed the area. They attack livestock as an amusement. It isn't a matter of killing for food. Elk, deer and moose have been decimated in Idaho by wolves. I visit Yellowstone every two weeks from April until November. I have yet to see a moose there. Locals says the wolves have killed all of them.

I did not know that about the Canadian releases.

Actually on a more serious take, I have read of various predators just partially eating (sometimes very partially) eating the kill.

I just did a search and they have released several packs since 1996, and as you say at least one pack is of Canadian origin.
