My Dad told me there was virtually no luggage room in the P-39. When they traveled a longer distance they would wear several shirts and a pants at a time.
Back in the mid forties he was in a group ferrying some craft from Washington State to Oklahoma, one of the guys had an engine failure. He rode the craft down rather than hit the parachute. He was killed in the crash. Dad confided that the night before they had popped the chute while horseplaying in the barracks. He knew the guy didn't bail because he was afraid the chute wouldn't work properly.
You just never know......
P-39s on Friday that must mean that Sayurday would be P-40s. Well it sounded good to me, besides I have quite a few really good P-40 pics. On with the pics.
The obligatory head on shot of a P-40.
What would a Series of P-40 pics be without a Flying Tigers pic?
A nice inflight shot of the P-40 in quite possibly 23rd Fighter Group makings.
This picture was taken at the Duxford airshow last yearIIRC. I wish I had been there to take it!!!
Another AVG P-40, this one is from New Zealand.
A great inflite pic of an 11th Squadron P-40 that were stationed in the Aleutians during WW-ii.
Well everybody have a great Saturday night and we will be back next weekend.
