CLEVELAND, Tenn. Gay activists on a tour of college campuses to oppose "religion-based discrimination" said they received a friendly reception at Church of God-affiliated Lee University but their bus got spray painted with a slur overnight.
"The attack on the bus is hate speech, plain and simple, spelled out for everyone to read," said Jacob Reitan, co-director of the Virginia-based Soulforce group's "Equality Ride" tour.
Reitan said Cleveland police were investigating the incident at the motel where the groups was staying about 20 miles northeast of Chattanooga. He said the bus driver saw a "middle age woman and teenage boy" driving away.
The message written on the bus was "Fags Mobile."
"It is over one side of the bus and it is pretty large, pink spray paint," Reitan said.
"We might choose to paint over it or we might leave it on, sort of a display of intolerance," he said.
Lee officials were allowing the group of more than 30 young men and women to meet with students. Reitan said his group was disappointed that the university refused requests to hold an official program on campus.
Reitan said there were no plans to disobey any rules on the visit.
"We decided we would leave willingly rather than get arrested," he said.
The Soulforce group was scheduled to visit Union University in Jackson on Saturday.
On Tuesday, seven members of Soulforce were arrested on misdemeanor trespassing charges when they stepped on the campus of Regent University, a private Christian graduate school founded by evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson in Virginia Beach, Va.
Earlier, during the group's first stop, two dozen of the gay rights protesters were arrested on trespassing charges at Liberty University, the Lynchburg, Va., school founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell.
Inside job
What do they want do rewrite the Bible?
"The message written on the bus was "Fags Mobile"
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!! Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Are people smoking cigarettes in there?
Fags like to be called Queer, didn't they know?
It wouldn't be the first time if it were an inside job. Certainly this group of activists couldn't manage to get arrested before this. And it's not a very insulting message, really. (I think it was intended to be a single word: fagsmobile.)
But since they seem to want to wear it as a badge of honor, I'm not sure where it merits a newspaper article. Unless...
wouldn't be a bit suprised.
Good call.
Yeah, that's what they want:

After decades of working to change secular institutions, the national movement, which has largely convinced society that homosexuality is neither a mental disorder nor a crime, is focusing on what its leaders say is their last, and biggest, challenge: convincing believers that it's not a sin.
sounds like one of the Communist Goals of 1963.
So the homosexuals were being ignored so they just spayed their own bus.
Seems like another attention grabber pathetic effort.
Yawn.
Faggin' Wagon came to mind. Had to be an inside job because of the lack of creativity.
homobile would have been better...
"Fag Mobile" sounds more authentically homophobic - plus no self-respecting gay-basher would posess pink spray paint, and probably wouldn't go to the trouble of buying it. Plus they wouldn't have their mom as an accomplice. It was an inside job.
Let's see what's under the hood.
Had to be...
How many straight-guys do you know that would walk into a hardware store, and buy pink spray-paint?
ping
I know one. He was running a crew at a multi-company worksite, and the tools he bought kept disappearing.
Fluorescent pink tools are very easy to round up and never walk off a work site.
