A note from your compiler- perhaps it is time for all this info to be posted on the web, in its entirity, so denizens of the 'net can translate and interpret.

Gitmo Study Nears Completion

I have received most of the surveys back from the blogswarm that undertook a review of the newly-released documents regarding the Guantanamo Bay detainees. Most of the study's volunteers have remarkably similar comments about the information provided in the documents. The Denbeaux study which prompted this blogswarm reached a number of conclusions that appear now to be highly subjective assumptions. For instance, the Duke wrote after his review:

Some found some strange stories in the testimony, such as this from Commander Salamander:

The CQ Blogswarm Study Group consists of these volunteers: ( too many to list here, see link for names & links )

Saddam was training terrorists for attacks in London
From the inimitable Stephen Hayes:

A new study from the Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia, paints quite a different picture. According to captured documents cited in the study and first reported in THE WEEKLY STANDARD in January, the former Iraqi regime was training non-Iraqi Arabs in terrorist techniques.

Saddam's Iraq WMD

Craig found some interestingnuggets in newly released documents from Saddam's Iraqi files here (PDF file).

" I don’t claim to understand the full context, but it appears that these Iraqi officials were admitting to:"

  • Bribing Russian officials to get specific UN Security Council proposals changed.
  • Lying about imported chemicals
  • Transporting nuclear material outside of Iraq

File description: ISGQ-2003-M0004667

This undated media file contains 62 minutes and 36 seconds of audio recorded tape, of President Saddam Hussein's meeting with high ranking Iraqi officials, discussing Ikius Report in the Security Council regarding the Iraqi Biological File.

Choosing Ignorance (NYT finally acknowledges the Saddam documents--if only to dismiss them)

Iraq-Libya Nuclear Connection?

As we noted last night, one of the recently-released audio tapes from Saddam Hussein's office makes clear that by the mid 1990s, portions, at least, of Iraq's nuclear weapons program had been moved outside that country:The ISSA analysis is accessible here, linked through "Libya Assessments" in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The ISSA analysis is too long to quote in detail, but this is the broad outline:

Interview With Freeper Joseph Shahda--

In Shahda’s own words:

I feel a great sense of duty to do the translation of some these documents because that is the least I can do in time of war to serve the United States of America to whom I am in eternal debt and gratitude, and what I am doing is a small pay back toward this debt that I can never fully repay no matter what I do. My efforts to do the translation pale in comparison to the great efforts and sacrifice that our brave troops are doing on a daily basis.
I asked Shahda during a phone interview with him on March 29, 2006, why he thought the government didn’t translate the documents.

(Excerpt) Read more at blogcritics.org ...  A denizen of the conservative web site Free Republic, Shahda’s profile lists the documents that he has already translated, fully ten of them.

More Damning Documents On Saddam

Why this doesn't matter I'll never know. Why Bush had to fight to get the Iraqi war story told to  the American people is the great untold story of the "gotta fake a leak"  media  treachery (and it is still untold.) Nothing short of a complete distortion of the facts. The media is the de facto public relations arm of the Democratic party.

The Timing Of The Iraqi Air Force Memo

Now that we have established the translation of the memo from the Iraqi Air Force general to all units requesting volunteers for suicide missions against American "interests", the timing of the memo appears to fit into a disturbing sequence in the months prior to 9/11. This memo is dated March 17, 2001, In a series of posts I wrote last year, I pointed out activity in Germany by the Iraqi Intelligence Service that the 9/11 Commission missed. Specifically, the Germans arrested two IIS agents in late February for their operation of an espionage ring in their country. In the winter of 2001, however, those agents had operated in Germany at the same time as Mohammed Atta met Ramzi Binalshibh in Berlin, As I asked in my Weekly Standard column last year, why would the main terror cell risk traveling abroad eight months before the attack? Once again, let's review why the 9/11 Commission reached their conclusion: Comments (7) |

What We've Learned So Far

Investors Business Daily provides a good, albeit not exhaustive, summary of what we've learned so far from the Iraqi documents...These documents make it even plainer who our enemies are and why we're at war. The administration should move to get out accurate translations so Americans can better understand why we fight.

This one document demonstrates that had we not acted to topple Saddam Hussein, he would have acted to kill Americans around the world. Read the whole thing and use the links here:

Weapons of Mass Destruction Found

'The Iraqi Regime Has Transported The Chemical And Biological Weapons'

CQ reader Sapper sends along a new document from the captured files of the Saddam Hussein regime, one that had just been released on Friday, that has notations indicating where WMD stockpiles might be found. The information on the memo has not been translated but the notations themselves sound breathtaking: In case the DoD website gets slow, I've also uploaded the document to my server here.   Comments (39)

Saddam Targeted American Assets For Terrorism: Case Closed (Bumped)

A few days ago, I posted a translation of a document culled from the captured Iraqi documents that the US found during Operation Iraqi Freedom. This particular memo, dated March 17, 2001, comes from a brigadier general in the Iraqi Air Force and requests a list of volunteers from all units under his command for suicide attackers. The memo explicitly explains the targets for these terrorist attacks, as the original translation from Joseph Shahda shows: When I posted this document, readers of this blog questioned the accuracy of the translation. People know that Joseph translated this for Free Republic, a strongly pro-war website, and that it was distributed by Laurie Mylroie, another pro-war commentator. Skeptics felt that this pedigree lent itself to a possibly warped interpretation of the memo.  I found a translation service, Language 123, that employs a number of translators who work as free agents. The first translator, Nabil Bouitieh, works in the UK as a full-time translator for several government services. He has language certificates from Karl Marx University in Dresden, the German Cultural Center in Damascus, a degree in translation from Polytechnic of Central London, and a Masters of Diplomatic Studies from the Diplomatic Academy of London. Separately, I also hired Hamania H, who works from Damascus.

Neither of them knew that I had asked the other to translate the document. I split out page 6 from the original PDF and sent it to both along with payment. They both returned their translations today, and their results make it clear that Joseph Shahda had it right all along. First, we have Nabil Bouitieh: Now here's the translation of the same passage from Hamania H:

UPDATE: Why "case closed"? Because this shows that Saddam had recruited suicide bombers to attack American interests -- showing that destroying Saddam's regime is an integral part of the war on terror, not a distraction.

What else could this memo mean? I look at the timing of this recruitment drive in this post.

BUMP 4/10/06: To top. Interesting that no one in the media, or really all that much in the blogosphere, seems to be picking this one up ....  Comments (49)

"This just further proves what we have basically known all along. Iraq DID have every intention of attacking us and we most absolutely did spare American lives by taking Saddam out of power."

THE MEDIA AND THE LEFT GO NUCLEAR
CATEGORY: Politics, Iran

If you plan on perusing lefty websites today, I highly recommend you put on a hazmat suit and take along a Geiger counter. Also, please make sure you’re wearing a good pair of cowboy boots because not only is it getting thicker and deeper than usual in moonbat land, but many of the denizens of the fever swamps have detonated their own weapon of mass stupidity regarding the possible use of nuclear weapons by the United States...Actually, Think Progress has a good round-up of a series of leaks in the past couple of weeks all designed to make the Iranian leadership very, very uncomfortable...This past week has seen the Jack-in-the-Box left in all of it’s glorious moonbattery jumping up and down over a story that not only has been reported before but which promises to actually vindicate Bush in his denial that he ever told anyone to leak Valerie Plame’s name.

"The left is in a total panic. The release of the captured documents has made fools and liars of the entire crowd. The one particular document showing Saddam ordered suicide attacks on the us six months prior to 9-11-01 has been translated by many different people with the exact same result. Add the fact Saddam was seeking uranium in Africa and the coordination between Iraq and Osama and that proves that the president was the only one telling the truth. Sort of shoots the ‘lied us into war’ strategy of the left down doesn’t it?"

Saddam's Terror Network and WMD

This is a no brainer. The media's war on America continues unabated but these facts are irrefutable. America, get yer head outta yer ass, this is a war we must win. This aint no Vietnam where you can turn tail and run. These barbarians are coming after you.Head_up_ass_2

Saddam was undeniably involved in terrorism.

Iraqis had WMDs and did their utmost  to hide them here and here

Where is the media....hellllooooooo. Echoooooooooooooooooo. Screaming into the void.

Captain's Quarters: Case Closed

Captain’s Quarters has a translation of an Iraqi document showing that Saddam Hussein recruited suicide bombers to attack American interests.

Prediction: this will have no effect on the “Bush lied, millions died!” crowd, who are in the grip of a derangement so severe that no facts or documents will ever have an impact.  Yes, and there were WMDs.    link: 32 comments

You're referring to the work by Laura Mylroie, which traces Saddam's involvment in a secret war against the US since the end of the first Gulf War?

More From Saddam's Archives

I haven't heard much about Project Harmony lately...One person who has been translating documents is "jveritas" at Free Republic. A number of the documents he's translated are ones that we and others have already reported on. Some, though, are new, at least to me. This is one of several that are interesting:

Melanie Phillips: Saddam's Secrets

Melanie Phillips speaks with former Air Vice Marshal in Saddam’s Iraq, Georges Sada, about his claim that Saddam shipped biological and chemical weapons to Syria; much of it will be familiar to lizardoids who’ve been keeping up with this story, but Sada’s reaction to prevailing Western opinion is interesting:--In April 2004, a group of al Qaeda terrorists was caught in Jordan with 20 tons of Sarin gas.  20 Tons of Sarin Found by Jordan (2004)  When Sada heard of this, he says, his blood ran cold. There was only one place which was capable of producing 20 tons of Sarin: Saddam’s Iraq.   link: 60 comments

#58 Baldy  4/12/2006 08:48PM PDT

The reason why the media ignore the Jordan "20 tons" story is they are losing money, and would rather cover dead Arab babies (to blame US or Israel) or dead Americans (" "). If it doesn't fit in their worldview, it isn't covered. If it isn't covered, it didn't happen...this is the result of popular journalism abandonning all vestiges of the standards of truth and objectivity that once resulted in journalism being a profession, as opposed to a leftist propaganda machine.

Ray Robison has been one of the bloggers leading the charge in translating the captured pre-war documents out of Iraq.  Curious about the Russian support of Saddam, the Iraqi coverup of the WMD, the bioweapons trailers, or the Taliban connections? Robison's the guy.  His most recent post concerns a translation of how Saddam was attempting to influence foreign governments. He also gets us up-to-date on Susan Lindauer - remember her? She is the second cousin of White House staffer Andy Card. Robison has discovered that she is being held in a federal psychiatric center in Texas, and has been declared not competent to stand trial.

Saddam's Archives: We're Getting Warmer

As regular readers know, we've been cautious about drawing conclusions from the tiny number of Iraqi documents that have so far been made public under Project Harmony. But today, jveritas at Free Republic, whose translation efforts we linked to here, has come up with what appears to be a highly significant memorandum.   Hugh Hewitt writes:
