Political Betrayal of Allies ..... A combination of Republicans and Democrats have been able to do what the terrorists could not do; they have convinced many of our allies, especially a strong one in the Middle East, that America cannot be trusted to work closely with them. Our friends have learned that elected members of Congress will betray an ally anytime a poll indicates that people want this to happen whether or not the public actually knows or even understands the true situation. Mob rule is back again. Can our own Bastille Day be far behind? Vive le guillotine!.... And what makes these highly educated mavens of Congress think that anything American-owned is safer than something foreign-owned? As I recall from my history books, and as my American Indian friends remind me, the USA is composed of foreigners who became Americans. ...On March 8, this year, The New York Times reported The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is failing to properly screen truck drivers allowed onto port terminals, according to a new federal report that found that nearly half the drivers whose backgrounds were checked had possible criminal histories. Most of the histories involved minor crimes, but there were also many felony convictions on narcotics, arson, and weapons charges. The report, prepared by the Department of Homeland Securitys Immigration and Customs Enforcement division, suggested that the failure to screen drivers left ports vulnerable to criminal acts and even terrorism.

"Dubai can trust who they trust, doesn't bother me."
America the worlds market, the worlds protector, needs no other country for trade or defense - the world needs US.
Why we act like such a weak country is astounding - why so many on FR are so blind to that fact is as well..
for them going begging to any two bit sultan is not a problem..well our founding fathers had alot to say about foreign entanglements none of it positive.

There is no other way to explain these numbers. Stupid idea!
Or, a good many stupid or, to be kinder, uninformed people. My guess is that perhaps 40% of Americans were really informed about the details of the port deal. I'd also guess that the informed opinion was evenly split.

Can you name any Presidential policy in the last 4+ years that pulled a 19% favorable from the American public? EVERYONE hated this deal except those who trust President Bush without exception. I trust my principles and not man although I have worked tirelessly for the success of President Bush. A book called the Bible shows us all just how frail we really are which is why you always look at policy and principles and not one individual unless that individual happens to be Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

The disinformation campaign was enormous and successful.
Facual information was lost in a sea of distortions, misinformation, out right lies, election year politics and hysteria. In a word: FEAR. Americans reacted out of fear.

If you don't want to trust the American people, then that is you. I will trust the American people. 70% of the American people were also against Clinton's impeachment.
Were they correct to overlook perjury and obstruction of justice.

Name any other Presidential idea or policy that had a 19% favorable rating since President Bush has been in office. You won't find any if you look, but you are certainly welcome to try. More and more Americans are realizing that President Bush's pandering to Muslims, remember the tender moment when he and the King of Saudi Arabia held hands as they walked down the lane, is dead wrong. His continual harping that Islam is a "peaceful religion" rings hollow to Americans who see that nothing has changed even when we put our lives and money on the line to help Muslims.
All these Monarchies and Oligarchs are still funding terrorism. What happened to the bold talk of President Bush to a joint session of congress shortly after 9/11?

There's always a silver lining. This ports fiasco did knock Brokeback Mountain out of the headlines.

What are the facts? I keep hearing that the American people were duped by various shadow groups working behind the scenes, but I fail to see how you get a 19% favorable even if you take your allegations seriously. Give me the facts please so that I too might understand just how uniformed I am along with the American people?
To: Dane
Frankly, I do not trust the American people when it comes to making judgments like this. Or, more exactly, I do not trust the American people when they are shamefully misled by the mainstream media and demogogging politicians.
Example: The media, hand in hand with Democrats, have engaged in a 3 year misinformation campaign, a "public relations effort," if you will, to errode the legitimacy of the President and the war on terror. At least 30% of the American people will fall for that, the same way they went for Wendy's after its "Where's the Beef" ad. (Not that there's anything wrong with Wendy's.)

It is so sad that armchair generals and radio blowhards like weiner(savage) who think they kill terrorists from a laptop or microphone hijacked the facts with lying hysteria and spit in an ally's eye.
JMO, I will trust the people who actually fight the WOT(Gen. Tommy Franks and Pace) rather than those who think they fight it from behind a laptop or microphone.
