Kennedy told the committee the proposal was not an amnesty. People seeking legal status would have to pay a $2,000 fine, apply for a six-year temporary status, have a job, pay taxes, learn English and show an understanding of U.S. government.

That's not such a bad deal.

What about those who don't apply? Will they get deported?

With the $2000 fine, at least we'll get the upper Mexican Class.

I don't see a darned thing about shoring up the border, getting control of it, stopping the darned invasion of our country.

I say NO,NO,NO to any kind of guest worker program till we see the security of our border increased. Sure, we need the protection against any terrorists that want to wander across, but we as a nation need protection against the swamping of our social network....hospitals, schools, welfare,.....you name it. The so and so's who come in here hot foot it to the nearest center where they're guided to every gov. socialist teat out there, all thanks to the poor American tax payer. Meanwhile the fools in Washington fiddle while Rome burns. They need to get off their fannies, out of the rarified place they're in and come out to live in the real world. Then they might get an idea why we're just plain fed up with the whole bunch.

If we make them Americans, will they still do the jobs Americans can't or won't do?

"That's not such a bad deal."

Likely few will comply. Why should they? It'll cost them $2,000.

This also encourages a new flood, as they know they will also be awarded amnesty at some point. This is a bad deal. Don't kid yourself, or try to kid anyone here.

depends on what he means by "show an understanding of US government" - he might mean where to apply for food stamps, free housing, and medical care courtesy of the US taxpayer.
