The term "single mom" is worn as a badge of honour. It implies a strong woman, alone, providing for her family. It belies the reality of child support payments, welfare payments, subsidized housing, and other "surrogate husband" programs. Women in two-parent, traditional households work as hard as the "single mom" (both inside and outside the home) and enjoy far less support from governments.
