"That big a force? Maybe a Zarqawi alert?"

I just hope Zarcoward is busy putting his head between his legs and kissing his a$$ goodbye...

It did seem odd when I read the news story that Iran was ready to talk about Iraq. Maybe they knew something was up? Maybe that something was this?

Just saw on Capital News on C-SPAN, which comes from AP or other wire services, that this is the biggest operation since the 03 invasion.

I'm not reading the rest of the posts so that probably isn't news on this thread.

I like it. I like it, alot. I would only ammend it thusly:

1) bomb into stone age
2) annex oil fields
3) let them rebuild on their own

etc.

Thanks to you and your son!
Yeah, I'm sure the 101 is involved. Anyone heard of any other units?

Baghdad, 16 March (AKI) - The US military has launched its biggest air offensive in Iraq since the 2003 invasion. A military statement said the operation involved more than 50 aircraft and 200 tactical vehicles and some 1,500 US and Iraqi forces. The operation targeted suspected insurgents operating near the town of Samarra, some 100 kilometres north of Baghdad. The focus of the raid is believed to be three villages northeast of Samarra where there are believed to be various Arab fighters as well as native Iraqi insurgents.

"Iraqi army and police forces, backed by U.S. helicopters launched a pre-dawn offensive against insurgents in the Jallam area from several directions," a source from Salahudin province told thje Xinhua news agency.

The attack targeted insurgents, including the al-Qaeda fighters in the open area between Samarra town to the south and the al-Dowr town to the north, and between Tigris River to the west and the Himrin mountains to the east, the source said.

The latest: raids have discovered a bomb-making factory and a large supply of Iraqi army and police uniforms.
This location was likely the staging area for the failed "mini-tet" that was planned for the green zone. This is also Zarqawi's sandbox and unofficial reports place his location as a prime objective.

Since the Mujahaddin Shura Council recently dumped Zarqawi as its emir he is in real trouble from Baathist insurgents.

Bombing them into the Stone Age sounds good but they are not very far past the Stone Age.

That's OK..

Just means that it won't take that long for us to see if they're headed in the right direction..
I think one of the "prerequisites" should be coming out of the stone age and adopting some more modern, civilized behaviours..

From NewsMax:

"Operation Swarmer began this morning with soldiers from the Iraqi Army’s 1st Brigade, 4th Division, the 101st Airborne Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team and the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade conducting a combined air and ground assault to isolate the objective area. "

So far sounds like just the 101..

Early this morning I was thinking about how we hadn't launched any kind of an offensive for a while. Didn't think about it much but it has been obvious we have been hunkered down a bit. I hope the hunkering down was really a rope-a-dope.
