I agree,
In addition to a cell phone and wi-fi laptop, both of which may be temporarily down, a Manhattan resident might have been wise to have stocked:

1 standard telephone and at least one telephone jack.
Candles
Assorted batteries
Cash & coin currency
Water
First aid kit
Can foods
Pet food
Toilet paper
A box of large "Salvage" bags.
Ample prescribed medicines
Portable radio/TV (battery operated)
Sirius Sat. portable radio.
A bottle of Vodka and a manual on how to steal a boat.

Pity about the Sullivan Law...

These are kind of 101, but I didn't see them on the list...

(I'd have firearms and ammo on my list there as well.) At least a machete or a camp axe with the laws there...a weapon which can be used as a tool, too.

Cigarettes (for barter if you do not smoke), and coffee are good to have also.

I'd make sure you have the means to start a fire (heat and cooking if you have to bug out).
