POLICE have clashed with protesters at the front gates of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music ahead of a speech there by US Secretary Of State Condoleezza Rice.
Anti-war activists were rallying against US involvement in Iraq as Dr Rice prepared to deliver a speech at the conservatorium. About 50 protesters gathered outside the building in Macquarie St and were met by police on foot, on horseback, and with dogs.
Police used the horses to push the protesters back, as a police helicopter hovered over the scene.
Police made no early arrests but had to go to the rescue of The Daily Telegraph columnist Piers Akerman, who was being jostled by protesters.
The Stop the War Coalition says Dr Rice is a "war criminal" and is not welcome in Australia.
Stop the War Coalition spokeswoman Anna Samson says the protest is one of many planned in the lead-up to the third anniversary of the "invasion and occupation" of Iraq on March 20.
Two Newcastle University students, Peter Gray, 25, and Naomi Hodgson, 23, were ejected during Dr Rice's speech.
Outside the conservatorium, Ms Hodgson said her friend stood up in the middle of the speech and yelled: "Condoleezza Rice, you're a war criminal".
She said he had showed the palms of his hands and said: "Iraqi blood is on your hands and you cannot wash it away".
Ms Hodgson said the pair had managed to yell the phrase several times before they were ejected by security guards.
"I did see on a TV news program recently that Muslim families have complained that muslim kids are starting to skip following islam..."
Oh the horror! Did you read 'Preserving The Islamic Identity in the West'? It's a hoot! How dangerous it is for children to sit next to the opposite gender in school, and then they want to have girlfriends and boyfriends and they ask for chocolate Easter Eggs and Christmas presents...and watching cartoons is IDOL WORSHIP!
The clerics are terrified. They had no idea how seductive Western Civilization is...the author ends up saying, not only that we are like the filthy effluent from a sewer, but we will contaminate their purity...and suggests, if the muslims in Australia want to follow a pure islam, they might be better off going home.
I CHEERED when I saw that. I'm prepared to shout a family a ticket out of here any time they want to go.
My experience in the schools is that kids don't care where their classmates are from. They all mix in together and I believe that the rate of inter-ethnic marriage is very high. I am just so fed-up with attempts to portray this country as racist and intolerant. During the Second World War some Italian prisoners of war were brought to Australia. From the stories I have heard, they fitted in splendidly with the locals and enjoyed a drink with them. I note Condi Rice is presenting medals at the Commonwealth Games tonight.
I don't mind if they get tax payed funded assisted passages out of Australia.
I don't know if you have heard of Keith Windschuttle? However, he is a major opponent of the intellectual left in Australia.

thanks for the link, I have saved it to read over the weekend.
I saw Condi sitting next to Ian Thorpe watching the swimming, she looked like she was enjoying herself, relaxed and laughing.
The migrants that came here from europe after WW2 were happy to have food and work and a roof over their head. It would not have ocurred to them to complain or cause trouble.
And they made a great contribution to this country. I say that as the descendant of much earlier arrivals.
