A government crackdown on indecent programming resulted in a proposed fine of $3.6 million against dozens of CBS stations and affiliates on Wednesday - a record penalty from the Federal Communications Commission.
The FCC said an episode of the CBS crime drama "Without a Trace" that aired in December 2004 was indecent. It cited the graphic depiction of "teenage boys and girls participating in a sexual orgy."
CBS said it strongly disagrees with the FCC's finding.
The program "featured an important and socially relevant storyline warning parents to exercise greater supervision of their teenage children. The program was not unduly graphic or explicit," the network said in a statement.

Come to think of it I don't think I've watched anything on c.bs for years either.
According to the FCC, Oprah is "beloved", and doesn't need to be fined.
Interesting.........................
Isn't it odd that Fox affiliates like FX regularly push the envelope along "decency" lines, yet somehow escape this sort of scutiny?
I like the one they show on the Simpsons where a buzzard flies into the broadcasting tower and gets electrocuted.
Lynn Samuels??? Ecch!!!
Over on NBC they're running something even worse! 3D-HD of Katie's colon!!!! Run for your lives!
The commission dismissed complaints against a number of shows, including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons."
Federal law and FCC rules ban radio and over-the-air television stations from airing obscene material, such as describing sexual conduct in a patently offensive way, at any time. The rules also bar stations from broadcasting indecent material - references to sex or excretions - between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., when children might be more likely to be in the audience.
Apparently the rules do not apply to the most holy Oprah, because that is PRECISELY what she did.
George Carlin, IIRC, had a routine about indecency on the radio and TV. He would hold up two fingers and say "There are two knobs on every single radio and television in the world - TWO KNOBS! One turns the channel and the other turns it off. If you don't like what you are hearing or seeing, TURN THE CHANNEL OR TURN IT OFF"!
Don't restrict my freedoms just because you are offended or can't raise your children right.
Now we can see why there are so many infomertials on all the time. Almost anything offends somebody and a lot of our fellow freepers have as many tripwires as liberals.
No violence...no sex...no offending words or terms that might even indirectly be racist, sexist, homophobic...
And then you wonder why there are 250 channels showing infomertials and most of the time there's not a thing to watch. What a bunch of old ladies we've become.

I'm not terribly bothered by it, to tell you the truth.
Hey - is George Clooney gonna make a movie about this?
FX is a cable channel. What, exactly, do you want the FCC to do about it?
What, exactly, do you want the FCC to do about it?
Nothing.
