Since your so sure of you must get over to the Middle East a lot. Do you know a lot of Arabs?
I work for a mostly Jewish firm ..since I'm not I was tapped to run the Mideast division for my Co.

I go to Dubai frequently and I can tell you they ...until this mess ....liked Americans a lot. Way more then the Europeans. The Gulf News...the UAE's paper...Have you read it? is a lot friendlier to W then the New York Times.

We stiffed armed an ally for no good reason....and the American people were hoodwinked by hysterical opportunistic pols.....like Schumer and Hillary...and you fell for it thinking that is what a "real conservative believes" Kinda like Black kids who won't get educated because they believe it's acting white.

Whenever I speak out bluntly like this about the reality of Middle East politics, someone always writes in accusing me of "hating" Arabs.... That is so funny.

I speak the truth because, as an American of Arabic ancestry, I have a deep fondness and love for Arabs. I want them to be free – just like I want all people to have a chance at freedom. But the sad truth is they will never be free as long as the oil sheikhs protect themselves by stirring up hate and resentment against "infidels" everywhere – as long as they continue to provide the people with scapegoats who are to blame for all their problems. I never pull any punches in my writings. I tell people exactly what I believe – and why I believe it...as an Arab-American Christian.

Joe Farah nails it.

As usual, he's intellectually honest and demonstrates rational arguments, but that and a dime will get Joe and others here who concur with him at FR a cup o' coffee.

There is more than one "monkey on our back". Do you think our liberals are really concerned with our addictions? See it is really hard for me to get more worked up over UAE parking ships when we got a liberal in the Senate saying he wants them to censure President Bush for "spying" on known terrorists.

The enemy is within.

well.. China and Singapore has government owned/controlled companies managing our ports, when are we going to kick them out? Or is their an unwritten rule to allow Communist and Asians to do these jobs?

"There is much hand-wringing over the collapse of the Dubai port deal."

I'm so upset. Why, I'll just cry into my pillow every night...

And how much is the euro worth these days?

Just over US$1.20.

Were you trying to make a point, or just curious and too lazy to look it up yourself?

Yes and I get tired of some of us handing them their opportunities on silver platters.

I agree, he gave the American people far to much credit.

Why would you say that? After 4+ years of the administration's whipping up the masses against anything and everything Arabic, what else did they think would happen?

I love GW, but he is in a stall and can't seem to get the plane flying again.

He should use his last 2 years to get his federal judge candidates in and get the tax cuts he did made permanent. Plus, he has to keep up the present level of troops and support for Iraq and Afghanistan. The rest of his agenda is down the tubes.

He has to get his people to keep on top of the bureaucracy, CIA and State Dept. as fools there are tossing him problems like the ports deal which hit him like a cream pie in the face.

I will admit to less than stellar grammar, but the fact of the matter is, after screaming to anyone who would listen about the evils of foreign ownership nothing is being done to address there most basic complaint. I ask where is the proposed legislation for foreign operators to divest themselves from terminal management. I mean after all it is about national security isn't it?

Look out. Now you're messing with Bill Clinton's legacy. Since Clinton has been out stumping Canada for the Bush white house, pushing the Bush doctrine of 'interdependence', no one in the administration is going to do anything to undermine the legislation that brought foreign ownership of US infrastructure into being in the first place.

Rush was saying there is legislation to make foreign companies divest of the ports within 5 years. He thought if it was such a dangerous situation, why give them that long, and if it was not, why make them divest at all. Rush was for the deal, btw. I would love to see the chicoms tossed out, but I'm not convinced there is anything wrong with the Singaporeans, except that they have slanted eyes. Is that what you are hinting at? Racism?

And as usual from Farah, Paul Craig Roberts, Pat Buchanan, and their paleocon friends, the cure is worse than the disease. What Farah proposes is irrational and not in our best interests, but that has never stopped him before.

Consider this statement:

"I also don't care whether other Arab companies ever invest in the United States again. In fact, I hope they don't – at least until they join humanity by recognizing fundamental human rights at home."

To how many countries does Mr Farah want to apply his litmust test before we do business with them? And should every such country that now has corporate interests here be forced to divest themselves of said interest? The Chinese, The Malaysians, the Koreans, who is next for his ultra-nationalist purge? What is our standard? No Arabs? That's real adult.

"Before accepting his Cabinet post, Snow was chairman of CSX Railroad. Shortly after Snow joined the Bush White House, CSX sold their international ports contracts to Dubai Ports World for over $1 billion. So when he says the United States is still open for business, this is evidently what he means"

What does this mean? Should CSX not have sold their ports contracts to DPW because John Snow used to be Chairman? Is it a conflict of interest when the company you once worked for sells their property to someone you don't work for? Where is the conflict he is trying to spin?

"The United States cannot afford to be seduced by the money and the power of the oil sheikhs. They are not part of the solution in the Middle East. They are part of the problem."

A little late there aren't you Joe? Sorry Joe, we need the oil. And Joe, we also need allies whether you want to win this war or not. The UAE has been a hell of an asset to our troops and our effort and we should'nt give them the finger. But since Joe does'nt think we should be there to begin with you can see why he cares less if any middle eastern nation assists us. I firmly believe Joseph Farah and people like him want us to lose this war just to prove themselves right.

Mr Farah and those like him live in fairyland. One where you can imagine a big fence to keep all the meanies out. Like most isolationists he believes in a world that does not exist, a world where the laws of economics are suspended so that an incestuous, closed, competition-free market place can enrich us all. The problem for him is that is not possible.

What jerk's these more-conservative-than-thou folks have become. They stretch the truth almost as much as the liberals do.
