Preferably a Republican one, first lady says
Laura Bush, wife of President Bush, said Tuesday the United States is ready to have a woman president -- preferably a Republican.
She offered her opinion while touring an exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts with Marta Sahagun de Fox, wife of Mexican President Vicente Fox, and Eliane Karp de Toledo, wife of Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo. The exhibit features archaeological finds from Mexico and Peru that show that, long before Europeans arrived, women served as warriors, governors, artists, poets and priestesses.
"They really show what a heritage we have in our hemisphere, a really very, very organized and intellectual society," Mrs. Bush said.
During an exchange with reporters, Mrs. Bush was asked if the United States was prepared to have a woman in the Oval Office.
"Sure, absolutely," she replied. "I'm voting for the Republican woman."

Making ridiculous statements like this doesn't further your viewpoint.
In fairness to Laura, it sounds like she answered a question posed to her. She couldn't very well respond, "No, America's not ready for a woman president." Then she'd have been in worse trouble. I think she said the only thing she really could say. I agree she's put her foot in her mouth in the past, though.
What has Condi done to demonstrate that she is any kind of conservative?
People assume that Condi is conservative because of her demonstrated loyalty to the president. Contrast Condi's political stock with that of her predecessor, Colin Powell. Once upon a time, CP was thought to be presidential material. That stopped when it became obvious that he was captured by the State Department bureaucracy. As soon as Powell looked disloyal, his political fortunes as a Republican were through.
But you're right, the infatuation with Condi is not based on logic.
When the US becomes a second rate power as did Great Britain - then the US will have a women President as did the Brits have Margret Thatcher...

Imo, we just know far less about Rice, than the others. And as long as she's pro-choice, I wouldn't vote for her.
I couldn't care less what the President's gender is (as long as it is conclusively one or the other...) it's ideology I care about! True adherence to the Constitution and conservatism.

I'm of the opinion that "Choice" (infanticide) will never die. The best that can happen is that the matter is returned to the several states and the people. Beyond judge appointments the President has little say in the matter.
I'm more worried about political free speech, property rights and gun ownership. Need to know where she stands on this matter.

If we had a Margaret Thatcher in the works it would be possible. But unfortunately female politicians in the US are dominated by liberalism's magical thinking which is emoting and acting like lemmings following the crowd. A lot of liberal men act like this as well...McLame comes to mind.
People who say that Condi Rice is a liberal are best seen, and not heard. Aside from her "absolutist" position on the Second Amendment and her positions in favor of restrictions on abortion rights, she's been great on Iraq and the GWOT.
