Feingold Blames Stalled Censure Motion on 'Cowering' Democrats

WASHINGTON — Sen. Russell Feingold on Tuesday blamed fellow Democrats for inaction on his stalled resolution to censure President Bush for his authorizing the National Security Agency's electronic terrorist surveillance program.

"I'm amazed at Democrats ... cowering with this president's numbers so low," said Feingold, D-Wis. "The administration ... just has to raise the specter of the War on Terror, and Democrats run and hide."

I am more concerned with the president's approval numbers then most freepers seem to be.

I agree with you about the poll numbers. What is stunning, however, about this is that Russ chose as his issue one of the very few issues left where the President polls well. Most people approve of the program, which is not "domestic surveillance." Only an incredibly dumb politician would chose this as his do-or-die issue on censure. Even the Dims seem to get that.

I agree too about the poll numbers however I am sure they were slanted on the sampling. Bush has done good in some areas the WOT, Tax Cuts, judges etc. But I think if he would get tough about the border with Mexico, and cut government spending growth he would re-energize the base and see maybe a 10-15% bump in the numbers. What do you all think? Just curious.... DN

In the military, that would get you court-martialed (accusing a high ranking officer with no proof)

Thus, the need for the "speech and debate" clause.

Well, I do think Bush's bad numbers reflect a fair amount of unhappiness on the right, which the MSM would die before admitting. My unscientific list of why is: 1. Not sufficiently vigorous fighting the WOT, in Iraq and the ports and borders. I'm tired of politically correct, Marquis of Queensbury rules. 2. Out of control spending with not one, not one, veto. 3. Doing nothing about illegal immigration. There are other irritants, like Harriet Meirs and not fighting hard for his judges, but I think these are the biggies.

File a cloture motion on this and have all the GOP vote for cloture so we can have a final vote. LOL.

I watched Feingold on Meet the Press.
He is a true demagogue and a hard left true beleiver.

He look into the camera and rattle off lie after lie after lie as if he was simply reciting obvious facts we are all in agreement on.

Imagine Howard Deans and Al Gores world view presented by slick willie.

Don't worry your heart about the lying polls and idiotic pollsters. There is only one reason to take a poll, make fake news and figure out what to do when you're making a decision.

REAL LEADERS don't concern themselves with trying to make friends. Leaders set the vision and strategery that their team will execute the plan to. When the successes occur, a REAL LEADER gives the credit to his team and upon failure to execute, the LEADER takes the blame!

President Bush is a LEADER. He doesn't have to poll to decide what is right or wrong. He already knows.

HE's not running for anything so why worry.
The RINO's in congross SHOULD worry about their sorry arses and their poor performance in supporting our President and our Military. THEY are the traitorous accompanying music to the Demokrat Catterwalling...

WE ARE WINNING! Don't let the CNNABCCBSNBCPMSNBC fools bother you!

"This guy is a grandstander, but he is such a Wus that he must sit to pee. He probably ran off to the Senate Powder Room."

I too suspect Feingold is a Sitzpinkler! Is Feingold the dumbest career politician in Congress? Isn't he a political ally on some (alleged) *Reform* Bills with John McCain?

Knock Knock. Who's there? RATS. RATS who? RATS that would LOVE to censure this president, much more than catch terrorists, trying to kill Americans and destroy our country...... Ok RATS , then lets have a vote, to see where you really stand........Uh we don't want a vote right now, cause even though we DON'T give a RATS A-S about protecting this country ,or the American people, we don't wan't to come off as the real traitors and treasonists we know we are. We are trying to get elected HERE, so we we would have to vote no on it so..........NEVERMIND!

Sure, and Boxer can get away with what she says, regularly, and because... (drumroll please)... she's a WYMMIN. Take two seconds, and imagine Babs as a man. There's no way people would excuse her ridiculous belocisity. But they do. And the Demm females play it this way all the time. Double standards, and then whine about "sexism" when it suits their horsefeathers.

Apparently he's delegated the WOT as the equivalent of Casper's ghost. That or he's making a pun about the Senator from Penn..but he's not that bright. ;-)

Feingold is right. They are cowards. They either believe he should be censured or they don't. If they do, they are too gutless to do so. If they don't, they are too gutless to tell their base that.

Feingold is a coward too. He left a yellow streak on the floor as he ran away from Specter, rather than debate his own proposal.

In all fairness to the dummycrats, they kept trying to push a unconstitutional "censure" motion against Clinton too (during the Monicagate scandal). At least Feingold is consistant in his support of goofy "censure" proposals. The question is why is he so entralled with the political equivilent of slapping someone on the wrist and saying "bad boy"? The last time the Senate "censured" a President was 1834, and Andrew Jackson had it expunged when his party took control -- and is now featurd on the $20 bill.

We might as well let Feingold have fun with his "Censure" resolution though -- bring back the ol' dummycrat resolution to "censure" Clinton in 1999 and see if we can get them to "censure" two Presidents at once. This could get interesting. Can Republicans push for a vote to "censure" the entire adminstration of Jimmy Carter?

Even if he does understand it, Feingold has to win the primary or else he has no chance at the general, so he'll do whatever it takes to get there, including bringing down his own party.

Hence, my original comment. Give him some more rope.

That's what was so goofy with the whole process Feingold set into motion!  Feingold brings his goofy legislation to the floor and ducks for cover!  He didn't stick around and ask for equally divided debate!

Russ benefits from this, it's all the other Dems who lose. Now Feingold can run to the Left of Hillary.

Any Democrat who runs to the left of Hillary come campaign season is assured to lose.
