A judge has sentenced millionaire James Sullivan to life in prison without parole for contracting the murder of his wife, Lita Sullivan, in 1987. Update soon.
It is still developing at Court TV.
He is an older guy, so he may actually die sooner than having his appeals exhausted. He loved the good life, knowing that tickles me pink he will be miserable.
I have to wonder why the jury decided for life. Hopefully one will speak to give us a glimpse into their decision making.
I do hope that the family of Lita feels justice has been served.
The one positive side of this, the appeal system is long. At least they do not have to spend the next 15 plus years in and out of court as Sullivan appealed a death sentence. imho
Normally, I'm for the death penalty in cases like these. However, in this instance, I think justice would be better served seeing this SOB rot in a real prison. He's a multi-millionaire. Can you imagine how it will feel to sit in a prison cell rather than in a mansion on a beach (Palm Beach, Costa Rica, Thailand)?
While I tend to think that in this case, LWPP is forse for this guy than death, if murder for hire isn't a capital offense, then what is?
I thought the appeals process for death sentences was shorter in this state. Do you have any details..
I suspect the jury went with LWPP because of a holdout; there was probably someone on the jury who doesn't believe in the death penalty, & they compromised. Just guessing. Like you, I'd be interested in finding out why LWPP. The judge upheld the LWPP plus tacked on another 40 years to be served consecutively. Sullivan won't be leaving jail alive.
