Israel forces have surrounded a jail in Jericho in the West Bank that holds a senior Palestinian prisoner.

Ahmed Saadat, the leader of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, is held in Jericho under the supervision of US and UK guards.

Witnesses in Jericho told the BBC that they had heard gunfire and explosions close to the prison.

Recent reports say the Palestinian Authority has been considering freeing Mr Saadat who has been held since 2002.

Don't know much about this, but sounds like it might get 'interesting'.

What the heck is a "senior" prisoner? Since when do such vermin have rank?

The most "senior" of them is Barf-Gouli, who ran for president from prison. A particular form of low life politics, mass murdering convicts running for supreme ruler of the Arabs in Israel.

What is even more disgusting, is buying the right to vote for the Arabs with Jewish blood, and then having them vote in not freedom, but the worst terrorist group they could find under the banner of genocide. I think it is past time to flush Palestine, the bowl runnith over.

If Israel would get over its stupid aversion to the death penalty, they'd have a lot fewer of these problems.

Anyone who's been in Pali jail for more than a month, apparently.

This is a typical misrepresentation by the anti-Israeli BBC. The Israelis moved in because the international monitors were withdrawn, a move that breached international agreements which Israel made back in 2002.

I have just posted this:

The story at the link has changed already, and yes, it's more interesting. :D

Israeli troops have stormed a prison compound in the West Bank town of Jericho, knocking down walls and killing at least one Palestinian.

The Israeli army is demanding the handover of militant leader Ahmed Saadat, who it holds responsible for the assassination of a minister.

Reports from Gaza say a British cultural centre in the strip has been set ablaze.

The incident is believed to be connected to events in Jericho.

Palestinian militants from the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades in Gaza City have warned US and UK nationals to leave the Palestinian territories immediately.

Reports said Mr Saadat, of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and several of his colleagues were refusing to come out of the prison.

I don't know why they don't just give this guy a Yassin Special. Shoot it in sideways or something.

"Israeli troops have stormed a prison compound in the West Bank town of Jericho"

Maybe it is a workup for Tehran.
