Searching for rocky worlds

Due for launch in 2006, Corot will be the first mission capable of detecting rocky planets outside our Solar System. This week EuroNews takes a closer look at this 30-centimetre diameter space telescope which will be able to detect tiny changes in brightness from nearby stars.

That's all well and good, but unless we can get there in my lifetime I don't give a hoot. I'd rather see the $$$ spent on developing the Moon, Mars or the Asteroid Belt as resources.

Oooh! You anti-european Luddite you! You should be _happy_ that the euros think they can launch a TWELVE-INCH telescope!
(how big is the Hubble's mirror again? around 7 FEET?)

Just THINK of all the jobs this thing will provide for them until it doesn't pan-out.
