Heads up, Alabama and Georgia FReepers. National Weather Service radar is showing a line of really nasty thunderstorms stretching up and down almost the entire length of I-59 in Alabama, from the Tennessee border clear over to Mississippi. There's tornado warnings out around Birmingham, Gadsden, AND Tuscaloosa, and the whole mess is eastbound toward Georgia. Stay safe!
Sitting directly atop Lookout Mountain in extreme NW Georgia. Can see lightning, hear thunder and storms approaching.
NOAA weather on laptop. Looks like a real nasty situation headed this way. I do have a basement and can head down there if and when necessary.
Prayers...........
Hello,
As someone who thought we would get slammed last night (in St. Louis), but thankfully didn't (it hit all around us though), I send my prayers to all in the area. Stay safe,
Glad to be here, MOgirl
Chuck...Hunker Down!
Oh my! Thanks for the heads-up. My hubby is right now about a mile out of Covenant College and was thinking of returning home (down I-59 to B'ham, then 280 to Auburn) tonight.
Thanks to y'all I was able to telephone them and give them the warning. They'll be spending the night up there and hubby will return in the AM.
You may have just saved a life. (Hubby thinks he can drive all night)
LIne looks to be about an hour out from us here in Montgomery. Will have to keep an eye out.
Glad to be of any help. Situation here has not deteriorated as of 8:45PM EST. I am about 5 miles south of Covenant on the west brow.
Light rain now but the NOAA weather radar looks terrible. Good call I think on telling hubby to hunker down up here and stay off I59.
Looks like we have just one more cell west of us before we are in the clear. As bad as the radar looked, I have only heard two claps of thunder tonight. Even though James Spann has been in weather mode, my doppler dog has not been having his usual weather panic attacks.
All quiet here in Mobile, presently.
Well, it looks like the tornado warnings have all lapsed, but the radar still looks bad. The line stretches northeast from east of Meridian, east of I-59 until it gets close to Birmingham, then it cuts right through Birmingham, and splits into two forks bracketing I-59--one pointing right at Chattanooga, the other stretching over to Rome, GA. That's still one ugly-looking stormfront.
My in-laws live north of Atlanta (Roswell) and I expect they'll be finding their 100-pound Hungarian Kuvasz wedged behind the toilet again tonight. Dog's not scared of anything...except thunder.
I think this front is supposed to bump us in Virginia early in the morning. It was 85 today, it'll be 33 tomorrow night. Stay safe, y'all!

I'm close to Roswell and I fully expect two 80-pound lapdogs tonight. The bad news is, we live in a flimsy vinyl house. The good news is, if we get hit by a tornado, there is nothing substantial around us to whack us in the head or fall on us.
Heh... I have the same minor comfort in our house that's in earthquake country... ;~D
Pretty quiet here in Villa Rica, front hasn't
come through yet.
I've been watching Intellicast and it looks like the bad weather will go south of us.
