US President George W. Bush directly linked Tehran to roadside bombings against US forces in Iraq, stepping up his criticisms of Iran amid a tense standoff over its nuclear program.
"Tehran has been responsible for at least some of the increasing lethality of anti-coalition attacks by providing Shia militia with the capability to build improvised explosive devices in Iraq," Bush said in a speech.
He cited recent congressional testimony from John Negroponte, the US director of national intelligence.
The president's comments came as he launched a public relations offensive to bolster support for the war in Iraq some three years after he ordered the US-led invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein.
Bush also charged that "some of the most powerful IEDs we are seeing in Iraq today include components that came from Iran."

Step one on the march on Tehran.
oh oh.. Daschle is now very concerned
no marching, just air raids on strategic locations...
Who cares what a mere lobbyist thinks?
One would hope there's some intel gathering on the plants where these components are being made. Send some tomahawks obliterate the factory(ies) and while we are it, turn their military bases into rubble. It's not like being nice to Iran will cause them to work for us. I hope the administration is simply waiting until the 2006 elections are over to strike.
Boy. This is getting to be a friggin' broken record. We know, Mr. President. We know that are contributing to the killing of our soldiers. We know that they would like to destroy Israel and have stated so. We know that Iran is going to get nuclear weapons, and has stated so. The question is now "What are YOU going to do about it?" Running around the country stating the obvious does not protect one iota soldier. If we KNOW IT, as you sayyyyy, What's going to be done ABOUT IT? You approval ratings are in the tank. What do you have to lose? A few speeches around the country are not going to change that. Wack their *ss! Shake the world up a bit in that region. You may say "they won't shake our resolve", but honestly. What are we doing about it? Patriotic talk is cheap and plentiful, and after a while of not doing anything, tiresome. If we are at war, get another war-time cabinet and forget the international community. Do you honestly think that the U.N. is going to do ANYTHING about Iran getting nukes, or contributing to the killing of our soldiers? Please.
You WH staff, pass this on to the CINC.
Someone should step up the rhetoric and start using terms like escalation and acts of war.
See what happens then. After all, that's what Iran has been doing.
When the POTUS starts telling Iran we know, it makes a difference in international relations. He is starting to do that now.
"What are YOU going to do about it?"
I agree. Time was up a long time ago. I guess we have to wait for UN permission again?
If Americans are dying because of Iran? STRIKE BACK!
"I agree. Time was up a long time ago. I guess we have to wait for UN permission again?"
Thank you. I am waiting to get hammered by some burned out WH staffers. But I'm loaded for pissed-off bear if they do.
Because the democrats have spent all their effort making the country believe Bush is a liar, he pretty much HAS to go sell this first, even if it is right.
After all, why should the public believe him, when even his own party just said he was incompetent on the Ports deal?
So much for the attackers being insurgents. They have no stake in Iraqi government because they are not citizens.
Now if someone could tie Amhadinejad to a roadside bomb in Iran, that would be fine...
"I hope the administration is simply waiting until the 2006 elections are over to strike."
Dontchou know it, brother. In fact, it may help things out, with the country typically not to change players mid-game. Who cares about claims of wagging the dog. Let's get this albatross off our necks. If it doesn't happen soon, the credibility that we gained taking out afghanistan and iraq, will fetter out, if it hasn't already.
(Squeaky voice): Oooh. but if we strike, we will overextend ourselves. It will be daaaaaaangerous.
We are a frog in a frying pan, slowly cooking. Time to jump out and take a whizz on the chef's face.
HA!
"After all, why should the public believe him,"
Because when you have convictions and proof, it doesn't matter what people think. You just do it. You go with what you know. History judges mistakes, not armchair quarterbacks who have never been in the sh*t.
Bush's polls are related to the american people wanting their soldiers home. Who wouldn't? If you asked, do you believe that Saddam should have been removed, you would get a different result. Let them have their civil war. There is a lot of bad blood there. We went through it and turned out just fine.
I see our border isn't the only one that needs to be controlled. This WOT doesn't waste enough bad guys!
Come on! There has got to be someone out there who wants to challenge me on this. Come on! I'm dancing, ducking and weaving!
