Duncan backs state ban on military-style weapons (Md)
The Washington Times ^ | 3-13-06 | Metro

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, a Democratic candidate for Maryland governor, testified in Annapolis last week in support of a state ban on military-style weapons. "I lived through what one of these weapons can do during the sniper shootings," Mr. Duncan said, referring to the shooting spree in October 2002 that killed 10 persons and terrorized the Washington area for three weeks. "We don't need these guns on the streets." The bill by Delegate Neil Quinter, Howard County Democrat, would replace the federal assault-weapon ban that expired in September 2004. It would outlaw the sale or possession of 19 specific military-style weapons and all firearms with military characteristics, such as semiautomatic rifles with pistol grips or shotguns with retractable stocks. Similar legislation has died in the last three General Assembly sessions, and lawmakers are skeptical that Maryland's Assault Weapon Ban of 2006 will get out of the House Judiciary Committee. Mr. Duncan told reporters that he did not support further expansion of the state's gun-control laws beyond the proposed ban. Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley, another Democratic gubernatorial hopeful, also supports the bill, but does not support further gun-control measures.

The stupid bastard would come closer to accomplishing his goal, if he banned Felons or executed them in Maryland...

One of the reasons I left that beautiful part of the country...(Chevy Chase/Bethesda area), is that is was clear the leftist lunatics and Turd World immigrants were taking over...

Thus proving, I was correct in my observations, predictions and rationale for leaving...

Lest you forgot...this is the SAME county that hired the racist and ignorant "Moose" as head of the Montgomery County Police -- which at one time was one of the PREMIRE police organizations in the country...(Most were former Marines)

To ban all of the weapons capable of repeating that spree, they would have to ban every single rifle from .22LR on up, including single shot rifles.

Yeah? So? That sounds like Doug Duncan's wet dream.

No, see, if the rifle hadn't had a bayonet lug, all those people would've lived. Really. No?

Uh, how about maybe that the snipers were spraying shots indiscriminately on full auto? No? Single shots? Hmm.

I've got it. Those guns look VERY SCARY and make liberals pee themselves. Yeah. That's why they need to be banned.

Forget Texas and Arizona. I want to take up a collection to put up a damn security fence along the Potomac and the Chesapeake and keep Maryland's cooties out of Virginia!

Not true. His goal is not to reduce crime. A certaint level of crime is necessary for government to contintue to justify their expenditure on police, courts, etc. This little neo-national socialist's goal is to disarm law abiding citizens.

Hi All-

I just remember the horror of anonymous police officers in balaclavas yanking innocent men out of white delivery vans at gunpoint when that was the "alleged" escape vehicle. Let's get that side of the crimesolving equation addressed before we start banning inanimate objects.

It was a miracle that nobody was accidentally killed with that broadbrush approach to finding someone.

In separate legislation, Duncan will propose to ban sports cars in an effort to curtail roadway speeding.

Nah, sports cars are actually faster than other vehicles. A better analogy would be banning vehicles with wheel well flares or spoilers because they look too fast.

But he'd take it if it just happened to come along. If a gun controller's lips are moving he's lying.
