"When a 3-year-old St. Paul boy got his hands on a handgun that had been tucked under a couch cushion in his house Sunday afternoon, his mom took it away and removed the gun's cartridge clip.
Police said the boy's mother, Lin Lin Xie, 43, then put the gun back on the couch, thinking it was unloaded. But there was still a cartridge remaining in the chamber. The boy picked up the gun a second time and it discharged. The bullet hit his mother in the knee. The incident happened about 12:30 p.m. at the family's home in the 1500 block of McLean Avenue, said police spokesman Pete Crum."

She put it back in the couch???? After the three-year-old had obviously found it there??? Why, why, why are people so mind-bogglingly stupid?

Looks like another failure of the educational system.....not teaching people, especially women, to discern whether guns are loaded. This is a Constitutional Right, people, and should therefore be addressed in schools.

I didn't know that the "knee" was a vital area of the human body.

I have absolutely no sympathy for this woman. Anyone stupid enough to hide a gun in the couch with children in the house probably shouldn't be allowed to raise children.

When the boy's mother saw her son with the gun she took it from him, removed the clip, and put the gun back in the couch not knowing it was still loaded.
Guns are not evil.
People ARE stupid.

"The three year-old picked up the gun and fired it - there was a round still in the chamber - striking the mother in the knee,"

Yup. Liberals think Sex Ed courses are great, but Gun Safety classes are bad.

What an idiot. Now we're going to hear from the anti-gun nuts, because there are those who are too stupid to handle (and store) a firearm safely!

When the boy's mother saw her son with the gun she took another hit of crack it from him, removed the clip, and put the gun back in the couch not knowing it was still loaded.

According to police the boy found the gun in it's hiding place in the couch. When the boy's mother saw her son with the gun she took it from him, removed the clip, and put the gun back in the couch not knowing it was still loaded. So, always check the chamber before allowing your 3 year-old to play with your weapon.
