There were a couple of articles posted about it, but it's worth reading the entire speech. He makes great contrast between the Dems and the Republicans and points out that the elections this year ARE very important.

Pick out your favorite quotes.

I like these:

Speaking of the Dems...

"They’re trying to convince you that they’re for more homegrown energy – they just don’t want to explore for it, drill for it, produce it, refine it, transport it, or let you use it.

They’re trying to sell you on better health care – but they want to take prescription drugs away from seniors, put government between you and your doctor, and protect trial lawyers’ frivolous lawsuits.

They want you to believe they favor education reform – that is, unless it involves more choice, higher standards and more accountability.

And here’s the biggest whopper of them all: They claim the mantle of fiscal responsibility, but their solution to every problem is the same: You pay more taxes. "

With Senator Frist retiring this year, there are some big shoes to fill.
That Ken is a funny guy...maybe he meant clown shoes.

Come on, he did have to say something nice about Frist.

But I agree with you. I am sure Frist is a very good doctor.

But a lot of Mehlman's comments about the Dems are pretty good. it's time we call a spade a spade and stop pussyfooting around, not pointing out how dangerous the Dems are for our country.

Agree with your assessment.

Funny how Frist beat McCain in the straw poll. Hope that derailed the McCain RINO Express.

I certainly hope we can come up with better presidential candidates than Frist or McCain.

My personal favorite is a Jeb Bush /Condi Rice ticket, except for some people's concern about the perception of a "Bush dynasty". But Jeb has done a great job as governor of Florida and would be an excellent candidate.

Have to wonder of Condi protests too much about wanting to leave D.C. when W does. I've got a Condi '08 bumper sticker on my car so hope springs eternal. As for Jeb, rumor mill has it that his wife is the one keeping him from running for Senate this time or presidency in '08. Wish he'd duct tape the mouth of his son shut. George P. is an open-borders anti-Border Patrol idiot...who unfortunately is being groomed for higher office in Texas.

Good speech until the intentional obfuscations cropped up:

...shrinking deficit...we saw that our economy created 243,000 new jobs last month, bringing the total for the last 30 months up to nearly 5 million (almost all of which went to non-citizens in the service industries)...we need to reduce taxation, regulation and litigation to keep jobs here (why have the Pubbies allowed increased taxation, ever denser regulation through layered bureaucracy and consistantly killed all attempts at tort reform?)...we will double our investment in scientific and basic research and recruit 70,000 more math and science teachers. Invest where and where are you recruiting from? Does that work like the Haitian nurses who think a frog under your pillow draws out bad spirits?...they want to take prescription drugs away from seniors (Defending the still-contested "free drugs for old people" socialism. Shouldn't have gone there.)...
And here’s the biggest whopper of them all: They claim the mantle of fiscal responsibility, but their solution to every problem is the same: You pay more taxes.

The biggest problem of all - discerning the difference between the Democrat mission to have us pay for thousands of frivolous programs or the Republicans' kowtowing to the Democrats' demands and finding our collective wallet just as empty. The facts are in and it's damn true that this Administration and Congress has no precedent in spending our money in all of U.S. history.

I'm sorry, "Fair Opinion", but until I see actual responsibility, courage and reform I'll have to regard your Republican Party as a major contributor to our problems because of their total adherence to the status quo. Most of our representatives wouldn't dare rock the boat even as it's going over the falls. We deserve better.

I almost thought you're suggestion of Jeb/Condi was a jest until I remembered that your fairness of opinion stops when it comes to diverging from the Republican Party's. Three times doesn't cement a dynasty, does it? Why would you wish that on America?

PING for great speech, especially the bold defense of GWOT.

...

"They call it – quote – “strategic redeployment.”
The Democrats are great at this game.
Before it was “strategic redeployment”, it was “exit strategy.” "

Yup.
"Exit strategy" is an oxymoron... 'exit' is not much of a strategy for anything except handing victory to the enemy. That is called a 'rout' or 'defeat' or 'running away' or 'cut n run', but it is never a 'strategy.

there is no 'exit strategy' on Iraq except "victory" or "quitting".

Which do you want - victory or quitting?

(why have the Pubbies allowed increased taxation, ever denser regulation through layered bureaucracy and consistantly killed all attempts at tort reform?)

obfuscation of your own at work:
- 3 Bush tax cuts, the most significant tax cuts since Reagan
- tort reform *was* passed in this Congress, so was bankruptcy reform
- regulation has improved in many areas, such as energy w/ 2005 energy bill

Strategically crafted laws that were, in truth, half-measure window dressings to snooker the voters. Both parties have become extremely good at this during the last decade.

Hey, tell me how a guest worker program is more important than real national security. Or perhaps you can get it through my dense brain why distributing our powers to our regional neighbors (NAFTA/CAFTA/FTAA) is good for America. Short-bus riders like myself really want to know.

How come one can't find the word "immigration" in there anywhere.

Must not be a problem.

As a Floridian, I agree. But Jeb's wife and daughter, along with being a "Bush" would be too much of a drag. I'd like to see him take on Bill Nelson in the U.S. Senate race, the above issues would not matter so much in a state race and he is very strong across party lines...

When Mehlman utters that word, amnesty is never far behind.

How about, “Together, we can pay more for gasoline”?

I think that one was the best, thanks for the transcript.

I wonder if Teri Shiavo, her family and those that loved her felt the same way. That will haunt him throughout his career(IMHO)

I would like an Ann Coulter / Doug From Upland ticket myself. :)

" no other patient got as much attention in the country"

No other innocent, helpless patient in our country was murdered by her husband with the assistance of our government either.
