Alaska would be too dang good for him, for getting thusly involved in the political process. For better or worse, Abizaid is one of us in uniform FIRST, and he should remember that, per UCMJ, we're not to get involved in the political process when on "company time."
That's why I'd almost end his career over this...he's over the line and should not have given any commentary on the subject. Since you can't trust the press with a simple quote, I might go easy this time, but certainly be looking for his replacement.
