A large tornado has moved through Illinois and has just hit the City of Springfield. Spotters reported a large tornado moved through the city. Damage is being reported. Emergency responders are being called in from surrounding areas.
NWS reports that this was a large wedge tornado.
Hope all is well
Wider than it is tall? ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH & YIKES!!!! Dang, I hate tornadoes. We're under a tornado watch again tonight, but so far, most of the nasty weather is north of us. I'm near the St. Louis area. Last night the twisters were south of us..........thank God! I hope the folks involved with this Wedge Tornado made it through okay.
I don't think there is anything to love here. This is going to be bad. Tornados in the center of a large town can be devastating.

BUMP! NEW MEDIA BUMP!
no, by "love it" i was being sarcastic -- the frigging weather channel is not reporting the weather but instead describing what might happen if there's an earthquake sometime; every night they have a story about how the weather was once upon a time; this afternoon, while we were getting the stuffing kicked out of us, they were doing their usual ohmygodglobalwarming show. anything but actually covering the frigging weather.
I'm only half joking when I say there could be a Category 5 hurricane 20 miles east of downtown Miami heading due west, and they wouldn't interrupt showing "Storm Stories: Hurricane Andrew" to report on it.
Oh no! I hope everyone is okay. I hate tornados! Sirens have been going off around the KC area all day today. I'll be so glad when this passes!
true. they're slowly turning into another discoveryhistorya&etlc channel. i think if their owners want to have a channel like that, fine -- but then let there be an actual weather channel. we are interested in the weather, not their opinions about the weather.

yup. that storm started all the way back in nw KS earlier today. it's had a hook echo much of the life cycle, and really wrapped up in its way into springfield, il.
