30 US Reps for Bush Impeachment Inquiry
Atlanta Progressive News ^ | 3/10/06 | Matthew Cardinale

APN) ATLANTA – 30 US House Representatives have signed on as sponsors or co-sponsors of H. Res 635, which would create a Select Committee to look into the grounds for recommending President Bush’s impeachment, Atlanta Progressive News has learned.

“There has been massive support for House Resolution 635 from a very vigorous network of grassroots activists and people committed to holding the Bush Administration accountable for its widespread abuses of power,” US Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) said in a statement prepared for Atlanta Progressive News.

The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) also released a book, Articles of Impeachment Against President Bush. The Center is extremely influential in high-profile court fights over issues such as wiretapping, the treatment of detainees by the US, and felon voting rights.

“We have the book, we are calling for the impeachment of the President, and we’re supporting Conyers’s resolution,” Bill Goodman, CCR Legal Director, told Atlanta Progressive News.

“The fraudulent basis on which the President got us into the war in Iraq; the obvious criminality of the warrantless wiretapping; indefinite detention in violation of the Constitution; torture as a part of indefinite detention and other ways; special rendition and torture, which is the outsourcing of torture... All of these violate various laws of the US, and they also violate his oath office which he swears to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and he’s doing just the opposite, he’s undermining the Constitution and attempting to destroy certain parts of it,” Goodman said.

Meanwhile, at least eight (8) US cities, including Arcata, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco, each in California; and Brookfield, Dummerston, Marlboro, Newfane, and Putney, each in Vermont, have passed resolutions calling for Bush’s impeachment.

This is what you mean?

"Impeachment occurs rarely enough for many in a country to misunderstand its nature. A typical misconception is to confuse it with involuntary removal from office; in fact it is only the legal statement of charges, parallelling an indictment in criminal law. An official who is impeached faces a second legislative vote (whether by the same body or another), which determines conviction, or failure to convict, on the charges embodied by the impeachment. Most constitutions require a supermajority to convict."

.impeachment does not mean removal

I don't mean to state the obvious, but that will be small consolation given the damage that will be inflicted on the Executive Branch because of the hearings for impeachment. And don't forget that impeachment, if it happens, will actually be less damaging to the Nation than the fact the Conyers and Rangel will chair powerful intelligence and judiciary cmtes.

Here's a thought that would make someone wake up in a cold sweat...Say that the RATs take the House....and they impeach both the President and Vice President...that would place Pelosi as President....(melting my tin foil hat)

Those turdheads in Vermont don't have anywhere near enough to do. They'll put Bernie Sanders into the Senate but we might actually gain a Repub in the house as the Adjutant General of the VT National Guard (a woman) is going to run. There's little difference between Sanders and Jeffords anyway.

Dems don't worry about actual grounds for impeachment, like high crimes and misdemeanors, rather, their reasons are based on hatred for the man and the Republicans in general and of conservative policies. They've been swearing impeachment of Bush since election day 2000, you know, for stealing the election.... Get out and vote, people, in November, or we're in store for a liberal circus, not to mention a disaster for the country.

If the Democrats win, yes they will impeach President Bush.

And with a Senate majority, they will not only impeach... but remove him from office.

Unless Republicans pull a 180... hell awaits us all.

Don't fret! Our president is not going to be impeached!

However I am concerned about two matters:

1. What is going on with W's inability to enunciate and to speak clearly and coherently? The problem is worsening.

2. Are we going to get income tax reform -- consumer tax -- or not? W has about two and one-half years left to get this reform under way.

Bingo!

I know he wants to make his tax cut permanent, but that does not seem like enough. We need a major overhaul of our tax system. I think it would help save the Republicans in 2006 and 2008.

" If they convict Cheney becomes president."

As absurd as this proposition is, hypothetically, if they had the power to impeach Bush, they'd file criminal charges against all high ranking members of the administration. I believe it is the same loonies advocating such.

Are some of you serious????

We're talking about KOOKSVILLE here. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that this would even begin to be looked at seriously even if the MSM/dems gained back both houses.

Get a grip!

They really do have a strange obsession with W. Remember how evil and hateful the Republicans were made out to be in the 90's? Wow. We were nothing compared to these wackos.

They have a case against Bush for not securing our border with Mexico

They have a case for what? Impeachment? Anyone who believes they have a case for impeachment of the President over the border problem with Mexico is as looney as Conyers. If that's what you believe, don't include me in your "us".
