30 US Reps for Bush Impeachment Inquiry
Atlanta Progressive News ^ | 3/10/06 | Matthew Cardinale

APN) ATLANTA – 30 US House Representatives have signed on as sponsors or co-sponsors of H. Res 635, which would create a Select Committee to look into the grounds for recommending President Bush’s impeachment, Atlanta Progressive News has learned.

“There has been massive support for House Resolution 635 from a very vigorous network of grassroots activists and people committed to holding the Bush Administration accountable for its widespread abuses of power,” US Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) said in a statement prepared for Atlanta Progressive News.

The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) also released a book, Articles of Impeachment Against President Bush. The Center is extremely influential in high-profile court fights over issues such as wiretapping, the treatment of detainees by the US, and felon voting rights.

“We have the book, we are calling for the impeachment of the President, and we’re supporting Conyers’s resolution,” Bill Goodman, CCR Legal Director, told Atlanta Progressive News.

“The fraudulent basis on which the President got us into the war in Iraq; the obvious criminality of the warrantless wiretapping; indefinite detention in violation of the Constitution; torture as a part of indefinite detention and other ways; special rendition and torture, which is the outsourcing of torture... All of these violate various laws of the US, and they also violate his oath office which he swears to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and he’s doing just the opposite, he’s undermining the Constitution and attempting to destroy certain parts of it,” Goodman said.

Meanwhile, at least eight (8) US cities, including Arcata, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco, each in California; and Brookfield, Dummerston, Marlboro, Newfane, and Putney, each in Vermont, have passed resolutions calling for Bush’s impeachment.

Yes it will paralyze the administration. ...But it would be a public relations disaster guaranteeing a win for the GOP.

How about FACTS a$$hole...that's what's necessary to impeach a president.

Sorry to have tripped your trigger and have you resort to profanity. It does not bade well for you prevailing in the discussion. Congress determines what is an impeachable offense, factual or otherwise. high Crimes and misdemeanors are actually broader than many think.

http://www.c-span.org/questions/week119.htm

"High crimes and misdemeanors" entered the text of the Constitution due to George Mason and James Madison. Mason had argued that the reasons given for impeachment -- treason and bribery -- were not enough. He worried that other "great and dangerous offenses" might not be covered, and suggested adding the word "maladministration." Madison argued that term was too vague, so Mason then proposed "high crimes and misdemeanors," a phrase well-known in English common law. In 18th century language, a "misdemeanor" meant "mis-demeanor,"or bad behavior (neglect of duty and corruption were given as examples), while "high crimes" was roughly equivalent to "great offenses."

Lawyers and historians are still arguing about the exact meaning of "high crimes and misdemeanors," dividing into three schools of thought about the appropriate definition: (1) serious criminality evidenced by breaking existing law; (2) an abuse of office, and (3) the Alexander Hamilton standard (Federalist 65) of "violation of public trust."

 Talking about White House draperies...
Designs on designs...
Although a reliable source had previously warned me about the wife's designs on the people's designs -- she had apparently acquired the nasty habit of pilfering from the White House drapery fund -- when I created the following metaphoric musing a year before the clintons "moved," I never imagined that she would -- that they would -- in real life -- in real time -- actually swipe the sofa.

Smaller objects neatly tuck-able in nuncupative deals & unnumbered Swiss accounts, without question...

BUT THE SOFA??

Chair Lift

Among the gifts that former president Bill Clinton says he is keeping as
personal presents he accepted last year are $28,000 worth of furnishings
that documents and interviews indicate were given to the National Park
Service in 1993 as part of the permanent White House collection...

Two of the furniture makers whose donations Clinton took with him on
leaving the White House last month say they gave them to the White House
as part of a widely publicized, $396,000 redecoration of the executive
mansion and not to Clinton personally.

"When we've been asked to donate, it was always hyphenated with the
words, " 'White House,' " New York manufacturer Steve Mittman said of
his family-owned business, which gave two sofas, an easy chair and an
ottoman, worth $19,900 and listed by Clinton as part of the gifts he
took with him. "To us, it was not a donation to a particular person."

Gifts Were Not Meant for Clintons, Some Donors Say

Sen. Clinton made another assertion - one that is equally misleading.

She contends she was not obliged to report the first Leiber bag she received "because it was received before the Clintons entered the White House."

But this bag, valued at $3,500, was received after the election and during the transition and therefore obviously was related to the Clinton presidency.

But he said the Socks purse was given to Clinton during the transition in late 1992, before her husband took office...

(bill + hillary) CLINTON 'CULTURE OF CORRUPTION'
by Mia T, 01.28.06

"When you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation, and you know what I'm talkin' about. [Note the gratuitous gerundial g-droppin'.]

... We have a
culture of corruption. We have cronyism. We have incompetence. I predict to you that this administration will go down in history as one of the worst that has ever governed our country."

(
Miss hillary also apologized to a group of Hurricane Katrina evacuees in the audience "on behalf of a government that left you behind.)

It seems almost beyong comprehension that an imcompetent buffoon like Conyers could become Chairman of an important committee like the Judiciary. However I suppose if the Democrats are a majority it is unlikely he will not.
There is no way the Demopcrats can choose anyone else. His race and his seniority will be the criteria and cannot cancel out the fact he is a half wit.
He may bring up the charges of impeachment , but I cannot see him getting the numbers required to put it over. The best thing is it would tie up the Congress for two years so they couldnt get anything worse thru, and perhaps that would be best.

BUT, when you even have moronic FReepers like the Kalifornia's "rolling_stone" feeding the fire, why wouldn't Conyers [and his band of idiots] play any cards they hold to the end?!?
