Romney Strategery (the 2008 SRLC poll)
Hotline Blog ^ | 3/12/2006 | Hotline

We heard some buzz about this last night, but this morning's front-page story in the Tennessean about the hometown boy's big win, also includes some interesting nuggets on how MA Gov. Mitt Romney was able to score his impressive second-place finish.

Romney, very quietly, worked with some Volunteer state supporters to bring in some college students from Union University. The school, which, btw, is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, is in Jackson, TN, in between Memphis and Nashville.

Also note in the story, the efforts of Romney's Southern backers to cast him as the best candidate in the field for evangelicals.

if you follow the link in the article it goes on to detail how the tennesee group paid for about 50 college kids to fly in for romney and how they bussed in local tennesee people. Most interesting. just for once cant the people who are supposed to be there just vote instead of dragging everyone else from out of state to vote?

Romney will not win because of one thing. He has a stupid name.

Speaking of dragging people in...

"And supporters of the U.S. Senate majority leader may have stacked the vote, bringing in three busloads of Republicans yesterday from Middle Tennessee to cast ballots, eat barbecue at the Rendezvous and attend Frist's afternoon speech."

i've been predicting Romney for awhile now. There's something inevitable about him.........Or, is it just my woman's intuition? We shall see.

He can run, But I would never vote for him.

I can not and will not, ever vote for a pro-abortion or pro gun control person for the Presidency.

His name is W. Mitt Romney. The W stands for Willard.

Personally I think he's terrific and a truly NICE person. His wife is just as nice and lovely to boot.

Whered you hear that? The story only reports that this 'unaffiliated group' flew about 50 college kids in and i think bussed romney supporters in from TN.

"Pro-abortion or pro gun control"

Pardon me, but when was he in favor of either? Documentation, please. He has said just the opposite, making anti abortion and pro gun statements.

Since you asked nicely,

http://www.issues2000.org/Governor/Mitt_Romney_Abortion.htm

I'll concede that he has started to backtrack on abortion, but I doubt he is being genuine, and as far as I am concerned, he is still pro-abortion and is still the same gun grabber he always was.

The website I posted gives his possisions on other issues as well.

Didn't Romney sign the law in Massachusetts which requires faith-based groups which place children for adoption to consign children to homosexual couples?

I'm not sure if he signed it into law or if it was done via judical ruling.

Either way, I wouldn't be surprised.

Romney has more in common with Hillary Clinton on social policy then he does with any other republican.

If stupid names kept people from winning, how did Gore get a plurality of popular votes in 2000?

Someone on another thread said that Huckabee doesn't have a chance because of his funny-sounding name. I don't know enough about him to say whether he would be my first choice for 2008, but I hope his name won't disqualify him.

After all, the potential candidates include Sen. Frist (German Frist means "respite" while frisst means "devours"), Sen. Brownback, Sen. McCain ("son of Cain"?), and, on the 'Rat side, Sen. Feingold (better than Nachgemachtgold, I suppose). In the past we've had candidates with names like Quayle, Humphrey, Eisenhower (German Eisenhauer, ironminer), Dukakis, Hoover, Roosevelt, Rockefeller, and Perot. After the novelty wears off, people forget that the name sounds odd.
