CBS "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer lashed out at the U.S. military on Sunday, saying top generals need to "stop blaming the media" for negative coverage of the Iraq war.
Closing his broadcast Sunday with a commentary on reports that Iraq has descended into civil war, Schieffer urged: "What must stop is the ongoing government effort to sugar coat [the lack of progress in Iraq] - trying to blame it on the media or saying it's all going very, very well - as our top general Peter Pace did last week."
Appearing on "Meet the Press" last Sunday, Gen. Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the reason the public's support for the war seems to be ebbing is because the media is selectively reporting the negative news.
"What theyre seeing is the same bomb going off every 15 minutes on television, as opposed to having an opportunity to see all of whats happening in Iraq," Pace complained. "I believe that the American people who are able to see all that is happening in Iraq would understand much better that progress is being made."
But Schieffer said that kind of talk was not productive
"The Iraqis hear that and take it to mean we believe their excuses and they'll continue to dawdle," he lamented.
Yes this is the best news, real news, in a long while, the Sunni tribes turning on the alQaeda turds and chasing them to the Iranian border. I would expect if this holds up, that we may have actually turned a corner in recent days
'You forgot about the "He lied under oath, but it was just about sex."'
Yes, if they HAD to say he lied, that's how it was framed. But what made me even madder was that somehow, lying about sex is okay - everyone does it. When that's the lesser of evils, we're dealing with scum anyway.
You are so right-on about scum!

Ah Bob? Hello? Bob? Bob???? Perhaps if you reported the TRUTH about what's going on in Iraq, things would be different, however, you, like that idiot Dan and the rest of the MSM, just wanna keep spewing negative stuff and not take any responsibility for it. Unfreakinbelievable!
In the tradition of "Uncle" Walter, Rather the Liar and other CBS stooges. I really believe them over a Marine General.
You're mistaken...the MSM is still very much accepted by the vast majority of the population. The veil is not torn yet. For an elite few, perhaps, but not for most.
Schieffer? See B.S.' present day answer for Cronkite...
"Iraq failures?"
we just liberated FIFTY MILLION PEOPLE and did it in less than three years with less than three thousand casualties!
The 'Rats favorite clowns FDR & LBJ would have given their left arm for results like that!
I agree with much you say but check out February,2004 as far as death rate goes. However I do think this casualty rate decline is a hopeful sign.Every death though is a grief and sorrow.
That was LTC Ralph Peters in the New York Post. He's great, but he's more like one of ours, not the media.
No .. he's what you would call NORMAL media .. not "old media".
