CBS "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer lashed out at the U.S. military on Sunday, saying top generals need to "stop blaming the media" for negative coverage of the Iraq war.
Closing his broadcast Sunday with a commentary on reports that Iraq has descended into civil war, Schieffer urged: "What must stop is the ongoing government effort to sugar coat [the lack of progress in Iraq] - trying to blame it on the media or saying it's all going very, very well - as our top general Peter Pace did last week."
Appearing on "Meet the Press" last Sunday, Gen. Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the reason the public's support for the war seems to be ebbing is because the media is selectively reporting the negative news.
"What theyre seeing is the same bomb going off every 15 minutes on television, as opposed to having an opportunity to see all of whats happening in Iraq," Pace complained. "I believe that the American people who are able to see all that is happening in Iraq would understand much better that progress is being made."
But Schieffer said that kind of talk was not productive
"The Iraqis hear that and take it to mean we believe their excuses and they'll continue to dawdle," he lamented.
...talk about blaming the victim....
Say WHAT?!?
Stop blaming the drunk for driving drunk? Stop blaming the rapist for rape?
Talk about newspeak!
Great post!
Someone should make that into a screen saver. It could pop to a new location at the end of every clip.
Think of that on ten thousand office computers across the country!
PS, My wife has stock in an air ambulance service. I was selflessly thinking of all the calls they would get to evacuate berserk libs!
That's true of FReepers but not true of a large segment of general population who just turn on the news and pretty much accept what they see as the truth.
Schieffer, who hasn't spent time in Iraq, is telling Gen Peter Pace that he doesn't know what he is talking about in Iraq? Hello?? Is there somebody out there??? Is this mike on???? Unfrickinbelievable.
How about the Reagan/Bush economy handed over to Clinton to try and destroy.
Heard one claim that BJC fixed the economy and that we not only had high prosperity but that balanced the budget and gave us a surplus the GW squandered.
I LOATHE ALL THE MSM, there are a few on Fox&Friends and some of FoxNews' so-called experts that are working real hard to get on that same MSM LOATHING list.
Yep! It was the NYT who wrote the story about THE CIVIL WAR as if it was currently going on and was out of control. I believe the men on the ground in Iraq have a better feel for what's really happening .. and their letters and emails home do not reflect anything like a civil war.
Plus - one of the media - has already written a great article about the fact that HE COULDN'T FIND THE CIVIL WAR THE NYT WAS TALKING ABOUT.
Scheiffer is just another Rather!
Then stop blaming Joseph Goebbels for the Holocaust. As if words don't matter!
Can Bob find his way home after work? Who takes him home each day? Just wondering.
And BTW the way Schieffer - if we aren't going to blame the media for Iraq's failures, we sure as hell won't ever credit the media for Iraq's successes either!
What, this guy thinks he's Walter Crankcase or something?
They will continue to lie but the FCC will never pull their license. The only way we are gonna get rid of CBS is to stop watching it completely and tell their sponsors.
What, this guy thinks he's Walter Crankcase or something?
He's back again, yes, he is back again!
Who?
"BAGHDAD BOB"!!!
You forgot about the "He lied under oath, but it was just about sex."
