Who is your favourite Miss Marple?
As I said, I will back whoever the nominee ends up being. If you are interested, here are my thoughts:
Allen, genial and real conservative. Was an excellent governor in Virginia. Tends to flub some public comments and I think from some of his actions and statements doesn't have a first-rate staff.
Romney...excellent speaker, no scandals, good reputation from saving the Salt Lake Olympics. Bad points...Massachusetts governorship doesn't allow much of a platform for Republicans, and the extent of his conservatism is unknown.
Guiliani...strong leadership, nationally known from his actions after 9/11, tough on crime, supportive of the military. Not conservative on social issues.
McCain...conservative and strong on military and war issues. I personally think the press will turn on him and dredge up all of his past scandals should he get the nomination.
Pence...well-spoken, no scandals, nice family, religious, very conservative...even more so than Allen. Not well-known outside of conservative circles and his home state (mine).
Frist...boring speaker, seen as weak by both Republicans and democrats (who have rolled him in the Senate). I think he is more popular in the South than around my neck of the woods.
Huckabee...nice guy, but I don't think the public is ready for another candidate from Arkansas.
As you can see, I am a realist and pragmatic. One of these gentlemen, or perhaps an unknown who hasn't surfaced yet, will be the nominee. I will support whoever wins the nomination.
