The government and the local (semi-controlled) press regularly denounce terrorism. Even in Saudi Arabia, the press is filled almost daily with news and editorials denouncing terrorism. BTW, I don't read Arabic, so my input is based upon the English editions.

"an American can NOT"
I do a lot of business there.... go there frequently.
What you say is partially true. No one...not just Americans but even fellow Arabs.. who isn't from the UAE needs to get a sponser who get's a % of the action. It's not a big deal. It's a lot easier to open up a biz in the UAE then Europe.

Most of the people in Dubai are "foreigners". "Foreigners" with millions of dollars to spend, dontcha mean? Workers. Only about 20% of the residents of the UAE are citizens.

A office of Israel in Dubai?. Its already there.Do you have an address? The GOI would be glad to know, as they've been negotiating for a presence for several years.

He thinks we're too ill informed to know how his nation denies and seeks the destruction of Israel...and how no one with an Israeli passport or a passport that dares to bare an Israeli stamp on it can step foot upon the shores of his terrorist haven. (not that any of right mind would want to)
Unofficial trade with Israel is handled through proxy countries; you would be surprised how much Israeli stuff gets through the "official" quarantine.

"But if that money were to stop, they are not beholden to the US because of any special love for our Christian-Judeo ethics, or our western ideals."
Here your just wrong ..if you feel this strong about the issue you should prolly just go over there and see for yourself....flights are as cheap as $850.00
They like Americans there. They have a innocent sort of awe...prolly gone after this slap....that is long gone in other parts of the world.
People in the UAE like America more then a lot of Americans.

This would be a good opportunity for Dubai to make it clear where they stand. Ads in American papers would be a start. They need to denounce all terrorism, including that of Palestinians.

You,re behind times. 250,000 British and 25,000 American citizens have recently immigrated to the UAE. My own son who has done three tours in the Middle East is thinking about moving there after he returns from Iraq. He has visited Dubai many, many, times and they need electrical engineers.

I have always supported Israel, still do to this moment - and I also supported the Dubai deal. IMO they enhance the same goal...Peace in the Middle East.

Why should they have to do that?
When are own media is scared to publish the Mohammad cartoons.
Also have you read the UAE newspaper Gulf News?
I have.
It's a LOT fairer to the George W. Then the NY Times.

There are a handful of subversives on FR, friend. They are maneuvering to try to undercut GOP activism and generate Democrat seat gains. In general, the best defense is do not respond to them and then their pro Democrat threads stop being bumped unless they do it themselves -- which is counterproductive to their intent. Just letting you know. Concentrate your attention on the threads that engender enthusiasm for victory, both in Iraq and in 2006 vulnerable districts.

I think it's very likely the GOP pays bloggers to post on this and other sites, don't you?Soooo...how much are they paying you? You are the one standing with the chicken little GOP'ers.
Now why don't you quit with the attempts to insult and make your points if you have any?

Why should they have to do that? Arabs, Muslims, and Middle East governments have a public relations problem in America. Go figure.

10 billion is our trade with them . Contracts are not trade or GDP. The contract with American construction companies to build the off shore Islands of the UAE was over 1 trillion. Just the latest with Boeing for a satellite contract was a billion. Boeing also sells them 50 million in aircraft but what people don't notice is the service contracts last years and are larger. We are also building the worlds tallest building there and have tons of building contracts.

Speaking of~~~~~Gen Tommy Franks, one of the more honorable men in this country, has even been accused - by FReepers - of taking money for his position on UAE. That is an indication of how sick some of the mentality is here.

I think two trillion dollars in contracts is an exaggeration. The implication that they buy 2 trillion in debt is wrong, as is, to my knowledge, the presence of a presence of the Government of Israel in the UAE. Exaggerations don't help make either case.

Israel talks to UAE
by: Ross Dunn
UAE map
Israel is planning to open an office in the United Arab Emirates for the first time, in the hope of establishing future official diplomatic ties.
The move is part of efforts by Israel to improve its relations with the Arab world following the cabinet's approval of the disengagement plan from some Palestinian areas.
Israeli officials say they are holding talks with representatives of the United Arab Emirates on opening an office in Abu Dhabi.
