FORT HUACHUCA Last month, 177 illegal immigrant were detained by post law enforcement and turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.
The number held on the fort last month is about 100 less than February 2005, according to statistics provided by the post public affairs office.
Since Oct. 1 through the end of last month 546 illegal immigrants were detained on the fort compared to 940 for the first five months of the previous federal budget year.
Well...I guess the flow of illegals across the border has slowed down, then..../sarcasm
It peaked in 1999.
Come on illegals, you can do better than that.
That actually depends on the sector of the border you're talking about.
Right now, the Tucson sector is the busiest along the southern border. In the first 5 months of FY '06 (Oct-Feb) we've seen 42,000 apprehensions per month.
Last year saw the highest number of apprehensions in this sector, ever, and this year is on track to outpace '04.
Doesn't more apprehensions mean fewer illegal entries?
No, not at all...because the official numbers from DHS say that for every illegal caught, 3 make it across undetected.
When apprehensions are up, that means that attempted crossings are up.
If there were a physical barrier on the border, your assumption would probably be right...but as it is now, if there's a patrol at one location, the border a mile away is wide open...and the coyotes know this.
