Kurt Vonnegut: Bush and Hitler Different
Newsmax ^ | 3/11/06 | unknown

Add lefty literary luminary Kurt Vonnegut to the list of notables who think comparing President Bush to Hitler is the trendy thing to do these days.

According to the Columbus Free Press, Vonnegut was speaking at Ohio State University earlier this week when he offered his insights on the Bush presidency.

"I just want to say that George W. Bush is the syphilis president,” the "Slaughterhouse Five" author opined.

Without elaborating on that insult, Vonnegut quickly segued into his next anti-Bush blast: "The only difference between Bush and Hitler is that Hitler was elected."

Vonnegut then reportedly told the Ohio State audience: "You all know, of course, that the election was stolen. Right here.”

The noted writer said he was nostalgic for the days when America had a president everybody could be proud of, explaining:

"I’m lucky enough to have known a great president, one who really cared about ALL the people, rich and poor. That was Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was rich himself, and his class considered him a traitor."

Free Press reporter Harvey Wasserman noted that Vonnegut drew the biggest crowd at Ohio State since Michael Moore had come to speak.

Wow, I didn't realize LSD was still a drug of choice.

Another drug-induced stupor rant......elitist in tone.

I read several of his books when I was younger. They were all very simple and similar.

Well, one can't look past the rumors Roosevelt let the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor to get us into the war effort...

To believe President Bush is worse than Hitler because Hitler was at least elected is analogous to saying Kurt Vonnegut is worse than John Wayne Gacy because Kurt is still alive.

However, that may be true...

What's funny is Vonnegut is/was solidly German American and what he's written has been pretty Nazi/German sympathetic.

He even went the old moral relativism way with WWII.

One of those writers who can be enchanting for a period of time, but in reailty there is no there there.

I wonder if I could get through one of his books today.

What in youth may seem heavy and deep is often later seen a bit more clealry as specious and demagoguic.

But, he was one of the first to rail againt the everybody mist be equal PCness.

A sad mixed up guy with talent who just shoulda kept smoking rather than twist himself in to knots about it.

Ya know Im beginning to wonder what is happening to the lefties. I mean they are pretty much crossing into the realm fo the certifiably insane.

They are just so far out their they have zero credibility. Bizarre that anyone pays them any mind of gives them a platform to spew their nonsense.

I would say Slick Willie has that honor but he never released his medical records.

Indianapolis, Indiana (his birthplace) is pemanently stained by this old loser's rants.

****

The declining old Vonnegut used to be able to think somewhat well and had a decent sense of humor, at least capable of going for the cheap, easy laugh. His light little insignificant books rang a bell with the angry, pot-smoking, anti-establishment, me generation hipsters - I know, I was one, and enjoyed a few of his books. ;-)

But, today and for the past decade or so, he's been just an old, debilitated fart, a breezy windbag with nothing but the regret of impending death hovering over his sorry socialist ass.

Vonnegut is an old ass, and unfortunatley old age has not handed over to him wisdom.

*********

excerpts from Vonneguts new book .....

* "George W Bush has gathered around him upper-crust C-students who know no history or geography, plus not-so-closeted white supremacists, aka Christians, and plus, most frighteningly, psychopathic personalities, or PPs, the medical term for smart, personable people who have no consciences." -- Kurt the M.D.

* "These were people born without consciences" — wow, tough to prove.

* "PPs are presentable, they know full well the suffering their actions may cause others, but they do not care. They cannot care because they are nuts. They have a screw loose!" – Heavy, Kurt.

* "They are going to do something every f**kin' day and they are not afraid. Unlike normal people, they are never filled with doubts, for the simple reason that they don't give a f**k what happens next. Simply can't. Do this! Do that! Mobilize the reserves! Privatize the public schools! Attack Iraq! Cut health care! Tap everybody's telephone! Cut taxes on the rich! Build a trillion-dollar missile shield! f**k habeas corpus and the Sierra Club and In These Times, and kiss my ass!" --- the old fart can still sling the childish vulgarity...... great.

* "In case you haven't noticed, as the result of a shamelessly rigged election in Florida, in which thousands of African-Americans were arbitrarily disenfranchised" --- proven totally wrong by many investigations of the election.

I always figured that's why Slick refused to release his medical records. He probably has herpes.
