100,000 March in Favor of Immigrant Rights

Hoisting American flags into the air, tens of thousands of immigrants from the Chicago area marched downtown in a display of support for immigrant rights as a bill to stiffen border enforcement awaits action in the U.S. Senate.

Many took up enthusiastic chants like "Si, se puede (Yes, it can be done)" and "La raza unida nunca sera vencida (A people united will never be defeated)."

The mostly Latino marchers Friday descended upon the plaza across from the federal courthouse, where they listened to speeches backing pro-immigrant legislation.

"Raise those American flags!" shouted U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (news, bio, voting record), a Democrat. "This is our country, and this is where we will stay."

If 100,000 can make their presence known in the USA why can't they make themselves known in Mexico. They have to fight their own fight not steal from us.

I saw a good number of these people on their way to and from the rally. I observed that the American flags (that were clearly distributed--a sign of political organization) were a nice touch. Gotta wonder about the chanting in Spanish thing, however. LOL

Corrupt Mexico is not my problem. My problem is fighting the corrupt politicians in USA where I am legal and don't matter to them. The illegals need to so something for themselves and their country. Do they give up citizenship if and when they apply for citizenship here? NOT and why not if they want to be here so bad. Wonder how many of the amnesty folks have become real citizens of the USA? Anyone know?

I agree with you. We have no problem with LEGAL immigrants. It's the ILLEGAL immigrants that are filling up our schools with expensive programs, closing our hospitals, and driving up the costs of our insurance!

Well, those signs at least show that someone understands the ethnicity of American culture. Yet how sad, that we who are under attack, by folk that were South of our border when Columbus arrived in the "New World," do not have leaders willing to defend what all those generations of European settler peoples achieved North of that border!

I will give these Mexicans, and Central Americans, credit. They at least are still willing to assert pride in who they are. What has happened to us?!

I wonder if we could ever get 100,000 Americans together to "march" in favor of our immigration laws. I can see why Gutierrez is pimping illegal immigration. It means more votes for him. He's nothing but a two bit, DemocRAT race-baiter in a cheap suit.
