U.N. Council to Chastise Iran but May Sidestep Sanctions
New York Times ^ | March 10, 2006 | WARREN HOGE

UNITED NATIONS, March 9 The Security Council is considering a statement listing multiple failures by Iran to meet the demands of the International Atomic Energy Agency over its nuclear program and urging it to comply, but making only passing mention of punishment for continued resistance.

A draft of the document, which the Council members have indicated they hope to issue next week as a nonbinding presidential statement, says the Council continues to hope for a negotiated solution "that guarantees Iran's nuclear program is for exclusively peaceful purposes."...

The United States has suggested that if Iran does not accede to the nuclear agency's demands, the Council will have to look at sanctions against Tehran, but the opening action at the United Nations was shaping up as less confrontational. ...

The draft, composed by Britain and France and incorporating American policy goals, says the Council's purpose is to reinforce the authority of the atomic energy agency and its resolutions, which call on the Iranians to suspend all enrichment-related reprocessing activities.

Well that'll show 'em! Give them a good tongue lashing. I'm sure they'll give up the nukes then.

Well, fire up the bombers and cruise missiles, once again we have to make up for the UN's utter flacidity. This organization isn't just a joke, it's a bad joke.

There'll certainly be panic in the streets of Tehran if the UN chastises the knuckle-dragging mullahs.

Sadly it will cost us thousands of American dead to clean up the mess....and Iran won't be a cake walk.

UN Security Council to Iran:

"TSK TSK TSK...."

"DO you hear us, Tehran? We said TSK TSK TSK..... aren't you scared now? We just wagged our index fingers at you!! Isn't that enough to straighten you out? Don't you want to see the error of your ways? You'd better behave, or else we will send Kofi Annan to visit you and announce that he can "do business" with you (as he did with Saddam). Yeah, THAT will show you......"

Do you think the UN gives a rat's ass regarding the "jooz"?

I hope we can take out those sites from the air and not need ground forces to do it.

The UN will chastise Iran for developing nukes. The UN has not as of yet chastised Iran for enabling Hezbollah to deliberately target Israeli men, women and children for more than a generation.

And of course, the Jewish State remains the nation that has had more UN resolutions passed against it during the entire World Body's history than all others combined -- and this includes during the Cultural Revolution, the Killing Fields, the Gulag, Idi Amin, etc.

I wonder if the UN will even 'chastise' Iran for actually using nukes -- especially if it's on the Big or Little Satan?

Would it be easier to take out the mullahs rather than the nukes? With them gone, wouldn't the rest nation just do a happy dance, including the military?

LOL ... unrelated, mostly, but funny.

STAFF VOTES 'NO CONFIDENCE' IN ANNAN The United Nations Staff Union voted overwhelmingly to express "no confidence" in Secretary General Kofi Annan and his top managers after Mr. Annan announced plans to overhaul the organization's bureaucracy. The motion was opposed by just 2 of the more than 500 employees at the closed-door meeting of the staff group, according to a union official, Guy Candusso. This week, Mr. Annan proposed moving staff members out of the New York headquarters for some services or outsourcing work. He also recommended more financial oversight, simplified hiring and firing procedures and staff buyouts. (REUTERS)

This has been a fight brewing since Nov 1979...you can see it coming but can't stop it. What has me concerned is why would Iran think they could take us on and live to brag about it.

Iran knows it can't win....yes they could bloody us pretty good....but if we decide to open up on them......really unleash the dogs on them......they would fold fast.

Well, FWIW, if this link is even halfway accurate, seems like getting rid of the mullahs might foment enough fuss inside the country to make containing it a bit easier.

Why they think they can take us on...

1. Liberals in the US.
2. Support from China, Russia.
3. Time is on their side. If they just stall long enough to develop the nuke than all of this will be moot.

There probably more reasons.
