Frankly, right now I'm less worried about possible business retribution by the UAE than I am about our spineless, panicked, slobbering-with-hysteria Republican Congresspeople and Senators being stampeded by the media into finishing their job of completely destroying George Bush. If you want to see everything go completely to hell in a flash, just wait and see what happens if the Congress manages to back themselves into the corner of driving a sitting President out of office in disgrace when we have 140,000 or so troops overseas fighting a war.

Isnt that the truth. I though the Honorable Rep KIng from New York said yesterday the issue was over after he did his part in this bloody mess. Has he changed his mind? If not will he hog the tv like he has done the last few weeks and try to stop this.

Actually, I kinda agree with you on those points. If interested, you can click here for my post on these very thoughts baout Congress and the Executive.

In the end, Congress should get itself under control. They (Democrats and Republicans) have postured enough for the public. Any further action by them will create some distrust in the US economy. That said, there will be no trade war and no long-term issues. After the 2006 elections, exigencies of trade and internaitonal business will bring things back to a more acceptable equilibrium.

However, there may never be a return to a pre-9/11 mindset for a while to come. Don't you think that's justified?

You have it exactly right!

I for one will march on Washington in revolt if those POS congresscritters and senators try that. This country has NEVER seen the kind of rebellion those actions would cause. It would also bring our economy to a halt, because those of us that fuel the engine of commerce would be the ones protesting in the streets.

BTW, did you see the poll Jim Angle referenced showing congress with a 31% approval rating? It is an historic low for congress. Bush was at 42% approval with 56% saying he was likable. These numbers will have pubbies puckering up... but it will NOT be Bush's ring that they will be kissing this time!!!

Well said.

But before we let that happen, WE need to take a stand. We can be squeaky wheels too - email every member of Congress with subject lines like: "No Impeachment"! or whatever would be appropriate.

Maybe if all of us who were in favor of the ports (terminal management) deal had acted out the way the other side did, it would have made a difference. Because I have to admit I did not contact Congress on the ports deal because I was only slightly in favor of it and I over-estimated congress, assuming cooler heads would prevail. Initial gut reaction like so many was hell no. But I was willing to learn more about it before I started yelling.

Told myself things like why would Bush do such a good job on the WOT so far and then put us all in danger? He certainly knows more about how much the UAE has helped us than any of us know.

We can't allow GWB to be weakened any further - and that goes for all on FR who are upset because he isn't perfect. I'm still not seeing anyone except maybe Cheney or Rumsfeld (both unelectable and/or unwilling) that I would rather see in the WH.
