(AP) Who'll Buy Dubai's U.S. Port Operations? (O.K. geniuses, now what?!)
TownHall ^ | March 10, 2006 | TED BRIDIS

The Dubai-owned company that pledged to surrender its $700 million worth of U.S. port businesses amid a furor on Capitol Hill wants to guarantee it doesn't lose money on the deal. But now that DP World is out of the political frying pan, it could find itself confronting a fire sale of its American assets.

Faced with unrelenting pressure from Congress, Dubai's ruler said DP World will transfer to an unspecified American company all U.S. port operations it acquired when it paid $6.8 billion for London-based Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co.

In its statement, DP World said its decision was based on the understanding that it will have time to coordinate the complex transfer and that "DP World will not suffer economic loss."

If I were Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co., I would sue the U.S. for any incremental cost or lost associated with this deal not going through.

"Someone" changed the rules in the middle of the sales transaction, now someone is going to owe the incremental cost or profit lost differential.

I don't know if Halliburton would do it .. but they certainly have an organization big enough to manage it.

It sure would be a another lump of coal in the dems stocking!

Schumer already tipped his hand about this. He knows it will be Halliburton and you all know the media and political firestorm it will cause. The RAT media will forget Chuckies remark about Halliburton and pile on the administration.

If they agree to pay me the standard sales commission, I would find them a buyer. Since they are not going to pay me, I dont care who buys it.

I'm fairly certain it was reported on Fox & Friends this morning that Halliburton was NOT interested in the operation.

What profit is lost? Its an ongoing business concern and functions daily, it has not been transferred yet. With those facts known, p and o is making its profit based on its business managment decisions. There is no cost to a sale that has been cancelled by no fault of either buyer or seller, that is the commercial code. Now p and o might have a case since wps has said it will cancel its attempt to run the ports, but I highly doubt it.

Russia, Egypt, Turkey, SA, Pakistan....?
Any of those would be great, since they are all US allies.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

And maybe the Arabs will receive the message sent in this debacle. Start to address the cancer in your ranks, or face the wrath of the American public. And I hope the WH gets the message too. The vast majority of Americans do not trust the Arabs, and with good reason. I love the common sense of the American people.

Documentation for my above post:

And scratch Halliburton off the list.

Melissa Norcross, a spokeswoman for the controversial U.S. company once headed by Vice President Cheney, called suggestions circulating on the Hill that they might take over "false and baseless."

Wouldn't surprise me for the Democrats to get out front and declare that these ports should be nationalized by the Federal government, much like the Federal lands.

This way, unionized government employees will work side-by-side with the longshoremen.

If the environmentalist declare the longshormen an endangered species, the deal is done.

Good chance that is exactly what will happen and the same idiots on the right who were against the UAE will line up right behind Hillary, Chuckie, and the rest.

A whole new bureaucracy is about to be born from DEMON SEED. This one will deal with making port security even more secure. The problem will come when moving cargo through our ports becomes so expensive that it drives up the cost of consumer goods. The DemonRATs are frothing at the mouth at the opportunity to grow the government with more bureaucRATs and federal employee union jobs meddling with our ports.

Too bad it is not likely that the port terminals will just be left idle and the union workers laid off.

I heard that DPW said they would not take a loss on this.

I wonder if those terminals would have to close if no buyer is found?

I STILL just cannot believe that so many "conservatives" and "Republicans" willingly allowed themselves to get sucked into Hillary and Chuckie's fear mongering. They, along with the MSM, certainly won this battle. Congratulations.

Oh, get off your high horse.  Do you realize how long it would take to learn that Customs Border Patrol would still handle all the inspection of cargo and not some sheet wearing, pointy beard having, olive skinned savages?  Well... probably not that long I guess.  But it's a busy world!  And when I'm told that "Ay-rabs" are going to "Own" our "Ports", it's chicken with it's head cut off mode around here.

It's a busy world, and not all of us have time to get our facts straight.  Even if it only requires a cursory glance or momentary reflection.

 it was probably sarcasm)

Amen, brother.

I think this will fall under the "careful what you wish for" category.
