Actually, one of the hypothesis is it is from over use of antibacterial cleaning agents. You know, the kills 99.9% of germs on surfaces. Well, that other 0.1% are these superbugs and are no longer held in check because everything around it is sterilized.

Yikes!
Apparently there are things that will kill it...like silver, olive oil and oil of oregano to name a few. I also thought people were more susceptible from over use of antibiotics.

Yes, I refuse to buy antibacterial soap.
I'll use isopropanol based cleaners sometimes because those nuke everything. Bacteria don't really have a good way to build up resistance to alcohols.

I worked on a research project 25 years ago that discovered a bacteria, Pseudomas putida, that ate phenol for a substrate.
