Halabja must mean a new beginning

As the riot erupted in Halabja on 16 March 2006, many Kurdish politicians were attending the opening of the Iraqi parliament in Baghdad. The Kurdish leaders have long argued that they have established a safe haven for democracy in their autonomous region since 1992. They say their government is a model for Iraq's future. This debatably is no longer the case.

Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology have identified what the researchers described as a possible pathway for a particularly virulent strain of the avian flu virus to "gain a foothold in the human population."
