Unrest in Pakistan Setback for Terror War

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- A week of unprecedented urban fighting in the wild tribal belt of North Waziristan has left scores dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, raising the stakes in Pakistan's war on Islamic militancy along the Afghan border.

A jumbled alliance of foreign militants, local tribesmen and Islamic students eager for jihad have stepped up resistance in a region where the army already claims to have wiped out al-Qaida as a viable fighting force.

The unrest, brewing for months, is a setback to the U.S.-led war on terror. Further hampering that effort are deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Afghan claims that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding in Pakistan and suicide bombers are training here.

DOVER, Del. - A huge military cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff at Dover Air Force Base on Monday, breaking apart in a belly flop that drenched some of the 17 people aboard with fuel but caused no fire or life-threatening injuries.

"It's a miracle. It's absolutely a miracle," said Lt. Col. Mark Ruse, commander of Dover's 436th Air Wing Civil Engineering squadron.

New York-Based Bank Account Tied To Terror Groups

The Manhattan District Attorney's office revealed that billions of dollars have been funneled through a major New York bank straight into the bank accounts of Middle Eastern terror groups.

It's the latest bust in a 3-year investigation into terrorist financing.

According to the New York Post, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau has reportedly shut down an account at a major New York bank because the money was allegedly funding Hamas, al Qaeda and Hezbollah.

The funds originated in South America and were being rerouted to suspicious accounts in the Middle East; $3 billion of "dirty money" have already gotten through.

The name of the New York-based bank isn't being identified, but the Post says it is among the largest and most visible in the city.
